I pray a lot...whenever I have idle time. Like in the car or laying in bed at night.

I usually start with asking God what he wants of me. I ask him to show me his will.

I pray for the salvation of souls...mostly family members. I ask God to open their eyes, ears and hearts to his love and mercy.

I also pray for deeper faith, I pray for the grace to be able to forgive those who have hurt me. I pray for the Church, for vocations, and for anyone who is sick that I know of.

The purpose of this is to keep in communication with someone I love with all my heart...God. To open my heart to him and be available to do his will.

I pray at least once every day, usually more, and for 20 minutes at least. How often should I pray personally? or how much should people pray? My answer is 'Whatever is right for the individual' I believe everyone has their own path, sometimes a path which does not acknowledge a deity and therefore requires no prayer. However, if someone has a deity than that deity should be acknowledged. What is the purpose of prayer? To honor deity is the most important purpose and is done every time in my prayer, to deapen my awareness to deity, to reconnect with deity, to request guidance from deity.

In my religion, I pray 5 times a day. What I love about it is the fact that we're close to God, and He hears our prayers. I do it because I love Islam, I love God, and I want to ask for direction, guidance, and protection.
