Not necessarily. If you look at the Harris poll below, you see that younger people are less religious. But it could simply be that as you get older, you become more religious.

How come so many atheists have answered this question? It seems like all of you just wait for a question to pop up that says atheist and then you all answer it with the exact same answer in a different form. We get the idea! We know you think it's great. But for those people who are tired of you questions not being answered or something like that, look around you! Look at the people on the streets. Look at the people in the poor districts of you town! Why do you need to have YOUR questions answered. You should be thankful for what you have. You should donate more than you should to the poor because they might need it more than you do especially if you are upper class. You should put yourself behind other people. To often I see the people who are so-called "Devoted christians" leaving small tips and building huge "family life centers" for themselves and not for the people who really need them. IF teenagers are becoming more atheist as time goes on maybe it's not because they are tired of not having their questions answered but looking at the so-called devoted Christians and thinking "I don't want to follow a faith if I am going to end up like that." And that is rightly so! But also look around and see the good things in life. Mankind has never been safer. We have state of the art medicine. But to answer your question YES. Atheism is growing among teenagers. YES. they are coming out about it. and YES some are being brainwashed by some evangelical churches. (For more on that see the movie "Jesus Camp") But let's not focus on who's to blame and the why. Let's fix it. Let's fix the problem.

In the UK the position is quite clear:

<"A report on youth published for the General Synod Board of Education in 1996, which says that 'the total Sunday attendance at Anglican Churches amongst 14- to 17-year-olds is 60,739', a drop of 34.9 per cent since 1987. [...] If the same rate continues to apply, there may be no young people at all in the Church in twenty years time. The report goes on to say that this does not just apply to church services - a similar drop has also been observed in church organisations."

Teenagers tend to be angry and confused. Before you think I am a fundamental christian, I'm not.
At that age, they are trying on a lot of different "self's". If their parents are church goers then they won't be. Why? Because they want to define who they are out side of their parents. That doesn't mean they won't find faith later, or that they will. It just means they are normal kids.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised!

One look at some of the hard line fundamentalists would be enough to turn just about any teenager who hadn't been indoctrinated away from God.

Given the option of:
close your mind or think --
which would you choose?

Some are given the option of:
Close your mind or you are no longer my child!

Well the education system is failing our youth...maybe if we are luckiy this is a sign they at least have common sense.

To answer your question I guess its "coming out of the closet".
Slowly we are seeing a progression where it will be ok if you dont believe in God.

Absolutely Not! Millions of teens across America are yeilding their hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ. Atheism is dying every single day in this world by the tens of thousands.

JESUS IS LORD! HE LOVES YOU. Stop running from him. Stop kicking him and he will receive you and give you hope and a bright future in Heaven. Today if you hear God's voice harden not your heart. He Loves you. Revelation 3:20.

I find my neighbor's teenagers especially ignorant. This is one of the generations where parents started saying kids should decide for themselves.
