Head lice are difficult to get rid of , but they do sell specialty shampoos at the drug/beauty store to kill them, use a special comb I think its metal with very close bristles and use that as well. Head lice will travel to your private area hair also...If that is the case please consult a doctor. Everyone in the house should use the shampoo as well they spread like wildfire...

Rid Doesnt really work. My sister recently got head lice and got onto me. Being an 18 yr old with head lice is a nightmare. we tried rid, nix, washed everything in sight and when we thought we got rid of them nothing would work. I think i had them a good 2-3 months. We finally went to the Doctor and got this special Lice treatment you can only get with a prescription.
WHAT A MIRACLE. But i do not remember the name. If all else fails just go to the Doctor

The most common treatment is a topical nonprescription or prescription cream, lotion, or shampoo to kill the lice and eggs. Sometimes a second treatment is needed to make sure that all the eggs are destroyed. When two or more topical treatments have failed to get rid of the lice, a prescription pill called ivermectin can be taken.

Some stores sell special shampoos. Last time that I had head lice I used a shampoo called "EQUATE Lice Killing Shampoo". You should use this in 7 to 10 days after your first use to kill any newly hatched lice. After that you should buy "EQUATE Lice Egg Remover". Use it in the shower. It comes along with a little comb so that you can comb the eggs and nits out. After that you should use "EQUATE Lice Bedding Spray". Spray this on your mattresses, furniture, car interiors, and other non-washable items. You should wash bed linens, clothing, and other items in hot water and dry in high heat.
You can buy these things at Wal-Mart and Target. ( I think I got mines at Wal-Mart) And all of them are sold seperately.
Hope I helped!!!! I hope you get rid of the lice!!!! : ]

If the hair is long consider getting a bit taken off. It will make the process so much easier.
Use a box treatment, go for NiX or another name brand one. This will kill the live lice, but the work is in removing the nits. They are tear drop shaped near the root and so hard to see.
Get the Nit buster comb, it works much better from the rest. Or have someone who loves you to go through your hair. Repeat checking and removing nits everyday for 7-10 days. We also used Olive Oil and mineral oil to coat the hair, but had to resort to the box kits when they didn't work.

I have two children and i tried everything but the best remedy i found was to use loads of conditioner in the hair and to sit with the child in front of you with a headlice comb (a fine toothed comb designed for the job-the metal ones are best)then simply section each bit of hait working from the back-comb from root to tip and wipe the comb with tissue in between each combing. It is long and laborious but it really works as the headlice cannot attach themselves to the shaft of the hair and the combing literally detaches them.It is quite satisfying to catch the little blighters! Pay particular attention to behind the ears and the neckline as this is where they tend to prefer to breed. You should do this at least three times a week on the first week and then once you have got it under control a weekly check in this way is good.
Cutting the hair makes no difference as small children get it by touching heads when they are at school playing and working.
Im happy to say that once i did this method my kids never got it back...and you arent using nasty chemicals on your childrens head.
Good luck

Forget all the so-called cures of shampoo and conditioner and lots of combing. I've had 4 children that all at one time or another have had lice and the only thing that clears it is a formula called "Hedrin" it came out about 2 yrs ago and they haven't had lice since. good luck.

Coconut Oil. It blocks the respiratory passages in the lice, and suffocates them.
You can buy jars of coconut oil for around £1.50 in most Asian supermarkets and grocers. Just put some on your hand, rub gently to melt it then comb it through.

There is a special shampoo that you should be able to get at any place that sells shampoo such as Kmart. To prevent lice which may be hard to believe, but you do not want to wash your hair frequently. Lice like clean hair because it is easier to travel through.
