No, you don't have to have papers to sell him. If he is up to date on all vet work, including fixed, and has no health/behavioral issues, $150 or $200 would be fair, I think.

You don't say how old dog is, but generally no, you don't need papers to sell your pup. I agree with the earlier poster that at this point, however, the more responsible owner would be looking for a good, stable home rather than making money! Unless your dog is older, I do think it's a good idea to charge a small "rehoming" fee, however, say $50-75 if you've paid for vet shots or $100-125 if you've paid for shots, vet exams, neutering, etc. If you don't want to take the time to find a good, stable home (which can take months), why not give him to a schnauzer rescue group?

It is not necessary to have papers on a pooch to sell it. However, it will be more difficult to get someone to spend money on an older puppy and one without papers. Your best bet would to be more concerned that the pup is going to a good home, and not be as concerned with the price tag. If you are determined to sell, I would recommend no more than $100. I would also advise doing a home check before sending him on his way. That way you know he isn't going to a bad situation. Good Luck!

p.s. - When you have papers on a dog, the parentage is listed proving that he is purebred. In order to have papers, both parents have to be registered with the AKC, ACA or UKC as the registered breed. That is what the gentleman meant by ensuring purebred status.

there is no way to tell he is purebred unless you have his pedigree so you probably arn't going to get much money. i dont think the money is the real worry though you should be more concerned with his future owners. check with you local dog shelter and they can help you find a home, most of them have lists of people who are looking for certain kinds of dogs and they can make sure it is going to a good home.
