My girlfriend has 3-4 things onher credit report that are from hospitals/doctors. At the time of the billing she WAS covered with insurance but didn't physically have her insurance card available. She gave them the information in order to have it billed. We recently got a letter from the insurance company stateing that she did in fact have insurance at the time. My question is what is our next step? Do we write the credit bearues in dispute or the collection accounts or hospital..how do we get this cleared? Thanxs in advance

Since these accounts are already showing on your credit report, you need to contact the three major credit report companies (Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian) and tell them you want to file a dispute. They will do an investigation and if they determine those are on your report in error, they will remove them. If they determine they're not in error, you have the right to add a consumer statement that explains why you have something negative listed on your credit report. See the sites below for more info:

Has the insurance company actually PAID the bills? If not, you won't be able to clean up anything until the bills are paid. If they have paid, you need the hospital to report that fact to the credit bureaus. It is highly unlikely that medical bills have been turned over to a collection agency that is not PART of the hospital.

If the bills have already gone to collections, the hospital will probably not deal with you. Your first step would be to write to the collection agencies requiring them to verify or validate the debt. Here is a good site.... www.creditinfocenter.com Look under debt settlement methods, and you will find some ideas on how to deal with the collection agencies.

If it shows up on your credit you have to write letters after letters to get them to fix it. I know its silly but that's the only way i know to get that off your credit!
