most of the people I see on bikes and motorcycles now dont wear helmets. i had seen one guy on a motorcycle with a helmet hanging off of the back. do they think they're too cool to be wearing helmets or something? even kids dont. when i was little i had to wear a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and hand pads.

Most states have a mandatory motorcycle helmet law because of the speeds involved, and cops do pull over motorcyclists to issue summonses for not wearing a helmet-- It is considered the same kind of boneheaded offense as not wearing a seatbelt in a car.
The consequences of not wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle are obvious.. Just ask the Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He required extensive maxillofacial reconstructive surgery after crashing his motorbike without a helmet.
Bicycles on other other hand are largely discretionary.. Most states have a bike helmet law that's mandatory only for those under 18, and even then it's rarely enforced.. I guess cops regard those offenses not worth the time to write the ticket for, kind of like jaywalking. The speeds involved in bicycling probably makes bike helmets less critical than motorcycles.

I never had to wear a helmet growing up, but I do now. And my kids will too if I ever have any. Motorcyclist say they feel more free without their helmets. They like the wind in their hair. Some people on bikes don't wear them cause the don't look cool or it makes them too hot.
Last summer in Chicago I saw more people on bicycles with helmets on than I did motorcyclists.
It is all about personal preference.

In some states it's illegal to ride bikes or motorcycles without a helmet. In some states it's legal. That's why you so many people without them. The kids probably hate wearing them and take them off as soon as possible or don't even bother wearing them.

when ppl were little they wore everything there parents made em i think u should at least where a helmet i fall every day now when ppl r like 9 and over they stop they don't care parents can start trusting em 2 ride alone so they can't tell bout helmets but don't worry as long as u wear ur helmet & not copy other ppl without em

i think they think its not cool to wear a helmet. maybe they dont want to mess up their hair. i love my helmet and wear whenever im on my bike. but i also spent $170 on it so its one of the hottest lids you can buy. the only real reason i wear it is because it looks cool and just completes the image.
i think if people have helmets that look cool, they will want to wear them. as for motorcycles, i dont know why they dont wear them....
i see guys doin 80+mph without them. its suicide.

Probably it's because you take care what you value...
I've seen crashed where a helmet allowed the guy to eat with a fork rather than a straw... I wouldn't ride with a guy/gal without a helmet.
