A hypothesis- (from Greek ὑπόθεσις) consists either of a suggested explanation for a phenomenon or of a reasoned proposal suggesting a possible correlation between multiple phenomena.
A theory- is a logically self-consistent model or framework for describing the behavior of a related set of natural or social phenomena. It originates from or is supported by experimental evidence (see scientific method). In this sense, a theory is a systematic and formalized expression of all previous observations that is predictive, logical and testable.

In science, a theory is a mathematical or logical explanation, or a testable model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. For example, it is a fact that an apple dropped on earth has been observed to fall towards the center of the planet, and a theory which explains why the apple behaves so is the general theory of relativity.
I hope this clears some things up for some people on this site.

Great! Now can you tell them why they can't sit and watch something evolve overnight? I just don't have the patients for this kind of repeatedness.

I understand completely. Getting it through to others? Only if they are willing to listen; something that I have found to be more and more of a rarity these days.
I tend to see no contradiction between creation and evolution. But most Christians turn purple from confusion at the thought. However, there are a few thinking Christians out there. I do stress the word "few" because they are not usually as outspoken, arrogant and blindly ignorant as those that don't realize that the "scriptures" are just words on paper, written and translated by erring humans and only one of many vessels to finding something that might be beyond our finite imagination.
In regards to your posting: I've often thought that everything is just a theory, nothing really exist. So, I pose the following (which would it be?):
Hypothetically speaking, a theory doesn't exist.
Or,
Theoretically speaking, a hypothesis doesn't exist.
Always wondering, always thinking, never quite certain.

"(evolution isn't even a scientific hypothesis since there is no way test it)" Wrong, it's a theory because it's been tested, observed and confirmed. Bacteria divide and tehrefore evolve extremely quickly, and we see them becoming new species and develpoing new traits within human life times. Evolution is proven fact, stop embarrassing yourself. Deniers of this will be seen in the same way we see peole who insisted that God caused disease and that germs were a scientific myth: "Germ theory isn't proven, it's why it's a THEORY!".

I had a theory that if I kept trying hard enough, I could throw something in the air high enough that it would not come back down. So, I set out to prove my theory.
The results were that after multiple attempts, I am not strong enough to hurl any object high enough to breech our atmoshpere. Each attempt resulted in the object coming back down toward earth, landing on the ground. The theory was proven false by the facts of my strength, vs. my distance from space and the pull of earths gravity.
Evolution remains an unproven theory. There is not enough evidence to make it fact.

So when a scientist says something is 150 million years old (not 149 or 151 but 150) is that a fact or a theory. Thanks.

Now you know how we feel when we try to get it through your heads about God.
You can "science" me all you want. Nothing will ever change my mind about the Bible being the TRUTH.

To wordy. I don't think they will get it.
The failure of our educational system to teach what science is about and how it works is a travesty.
