i can't swing but it has always been a passion of mine,
my parents tell me im bad, my friends laugh at me,
but i really want to learn, does anyone know a way i can teach myself for free ? im young, i have no money, and i know you'll say you love singing then just do it, but i actually want to be able to. I believe, if you love to do something, you were made to do it.

Here is a mini-lesson for you that I have devised and have had great results with! This is what I teach my students the first few weeks of private lessons. Work on these techniques and there is no doubt you will get to be a better singer! Good luck and don't give up!

1. Breathing. Make sure you are taking nice deep breaths. To check this, squat or plie during warm-ups. When you breathe in your low ab muscles should drop (due to lowering the center of gravity). Your belly and back will expand! Every breath should feel like that when you sing!---see your next question for more breathing exercises!!

2. Singing posture. Make sure you are standing with your feet shoulder width apart, back/neck/head are aligned, and your chin is not sticking out. When men (and some women) sing high, they unknowingly stick their neck out to "reach" for the high notes. Make sure your head stays straight and your chin is parallel to the ground.

3. Do warm-ups that stretch your cords gradually. Start in your low range and work your way up. Make sure you are changing to your head voice when getting in the upper part of your range. You can stretch your vocal cords by pushing them by half-step higher every day you practice. Whatever you do, listen to your body, and if your throat feels strained, stop!

4. Drop your jaw! Do not sing horizontally (like you're smiling). It adds nasality to your tone. To check yourself put both hands to your face, one finger on the corners of your mouth in a resting position. When you sing (warm-ups or repertoire) do not let the corners of your mouth widen past your fingers!

You might not turn out to have a superstar voice, but you can learn to sing in tune with a pleasant vocal quality. Everybody is born with the talent to sing. If you can make your voice go higher an lower, then you can sing. The hard part is making your voice match a pitch, there is software for that, this is a good one.

I've seen it help people and it's fun to do. It may be harder for you than some people, but it can be done. If you can get voice lessons with a real teacher, it will help you improve much faster, It does cost money for the software, and I know you don't have any, so the advice about recording yourself is a good tool. Record and listen to yourself on your computer, every day. Ask friends that can sing how they do it. Record them and try to imitate them. Do it a lot, daily and you'll see improvement.

First, it would help to figure out WHY you don't sing well. The two main problems would be not hearing correctly, or not producing sound correctly.

First find out if you can hear if one pitch is higher than another. Have someone play 2 notes and tell them if the second is higher or lower. Have them play notes closer and closer together.

Next practice matching just one note with your voice, then two, three and then a line.

If your voice cracks, you may be singing too high or too low. Also, you may need to breath properly and "support" your voice, then learn how to change it as you go up and down.

Once you find out what your problem is, if it's not physical and permanent, you might be able to overcome it. Good luck.

I totally understand. I don't know of a COMPLETELY free way to learn to sing, but they have "teach-yourself-to-sing" tapes and CDs out there that are fairly inexpensive. You can find them online or in music stores. I think if singing is really something you care about, which I believe you do, then I think it would be worth it to invest some money in something like that. Good luck!

Some people have a tin ear. Others are dreamers. Nothing will help unless you were blessed, and have a natural talent. Sing all you want, just do it in private. Sing for the expression of your heart, hum a few bars, or whistle. Learn an instrument. Be part of what you love, and do it out loud. The angels will hear you, and they will love your voice.

ok. i struggled with this same thing. Buy a earpiece that is only like 10 bucks. Buy the kind that you sing into the mike and you can hear yourself. Then you know how badly you sound. But practice with your voice a little. Dont sing through your nose. Try singing all different kind of songs and then teach yourself how to sing like the artist. Better yet, find a neighbor, high-school student, or friend willing to teach you for no charge, and if your friends are like that to you then dump them. theyre b....tches

Sorry to be blunt...but you need to be naturally born with singing ability. I know people that have taken lessons for years, but they are still just very average and you can tell they aren't using a lot of natural ability. Some people just have the crazy ability to jetison beautiful tones from their voice. You could still do something that revolves around singing, like being a vocal coach. Lots of vocal coaches out there aren't the greatest singers, but they can teach others proper breathing techniques. That's really all vocal lessons can do, teach breathing techniques.

I sing, and i perform all the time. I havent had singng lessons or anything SPECIAL. and my sister has has 5 singing teachers... the thing is, i love singing more and now it seems that ive become the better singer, and i show more love for the passion.

So really, just listen to people like whitney houston, celine dion, and mariah carey. You dont need to like the music, but their the most amazing singers out there right now.

Just practice control of your voice.

Why dont you just sing for fun. You can have a passion for something but have it be your job. I say sing because you like it and it makes you happy, not because people like and might make you famous or something like that.

And you can practice by singing along to real songs and recording them of a tape recording. Then playing it back and listen if it's on pitch or not.

Just keep practicing and try to find different styles of music that you sing better than others. Like me, I like to listen to more pop/rock stuff, but I sing country kind of poppy stuff like the Dixie Chicks best. If you love it, keep trying. Don't let anyone else get you down.
