My wife and I recently have had a Eternity ring custom made. Unfortunately it was sized a 1/4" too big. We have talked to the makers and they suggested that we have them melt a spacer in the ring, but we would like to as much as possible avoid the melting route. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can use to space the Eternity ring?

Thanks in advance..

1/4 is hardly a big deal. You had them custom made and they didn't custom make it to the size you ordered they should replace it free of charge. But if it was your problem and you ordered it the wrong size, consider ring guards. Most stores sell them and they just slip on the inside. They come in a gold color to match the ring and a clear platic.

There is also a jelly substance. Basically a gel that you squirt into the inside of the ring. When it solidifies, the ring can be worn. It stays there until you peel it off and when it peels it doesn't stratch the original ring at all.

Think about it first. Most peoples hands change between 1/4 and 1/2 a size from winter to summer so you may not want anything permanent in there at all.

Have a jeweler put two gold balls on the inside of the ring. Experience jewelers know how to do this on rings that are too large. This way, the ring slips over tightly, and is comfortable when worn. Yes, these have to be melted on, but it works, and did for my Grammy, who had to wear her rings big because of arthritis, but also needed something to keep the big rings in place.
