There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

I have the same problem but I actually don't have enough sleep. This method can be effective. Cut raw potatoes into wedges or even grate it and squeeze the juice onto a cheese cloth and put it over your eyes for 15-20 min. The enzyme in the potatoes should help lighten the dark circle. After that, just wash off. I've tried this and seems to help a lot. I should do it more. Using used tea bags also helps. Make sure it's cool before putting under your eyes. Also, they say if you drink lots of water before bed, this will worsen the puffiness and dark circles. Avoid eating too much salt.
The other thing is, try using some eye cream, the brand that I like is Avalon organics. It really works!
Good luck!

don't do anything -- and try to keep from rubbing your eyes. they are hereditary -- you either have french or indian ancestors most likely. they are caused because the blood vessels under your eyes are closer to the surface than in other people. when you rub your eyes it makes the blood vessels pop which makes the released blood oxydize and turn dark.

i have them and can only recommend drinking more water and maybe learning how to use jala neti. keeping your eyes less irritated seems to be the only thing that helps me. people that cover them up and rub stuff on them just make them worse. i tried a few things and they are outrageously expensive and don't do much if anything.

Okay, I have the same exact thing. They are called "allergetic shiners," and are caused by having bad allergies. To fix them, try taking some allergy medicine before going to bed, and in the morning. They should disappear in a week or two.
