I heard some creationist claim that...?

all the bad things in the U.S.A. are the direct result of atheism. He said that since we believe we came from monkeys, we act like monkeys. Well I happen to think that monkeys are peaceful creatures. I certainly don't see monkeys crusading in the name of Christ. I don't see monkeys declaring Jihad. That means that us monkeys (ie evolutionists) are the most peaceful group of people in the world. Right?

People who say such things want to take us back to a mythical golden age of the USA when people were God-Fearing and all was well. I don't know what era they have in mind. Surely they don't mean all those years of slavery (argued by its supporters to be Biblically supported) and surely they don't mean all those decades of lynchings and child labor. I have no idea when the past, a much more religious period, was supposed to be pure. Certainly in each era previously the religious people of that age also called the times they were living in debased and sinful. For such people everything good is because of people who share their beliefs and everything bad is the result of people who think differently. Don't take them seriously.

Well, this doesn't apply to chimps. They can be violent, and they have actually waged what can only be described as war between separate groups living in the same area. They have also been known to form hunting parties to kill neighboring groups' young, and they eat those that they find sometimes. Still, the Creationist is showing the clear lack of understanding that many of them tend to show. We have a common ancestor with monkeys; to my knowledge, no one with any actual understanding of evolution has ever claimed that we evolved from monkeys. We have one of the highest percentages of Christians among all countries in the world, and we also have the highest incarceration rate in the world. By the way, around 84% of convicts are Christians, while only 0.21% are atheists. Tell that Creationist to put that in his pipe and smoke it.

Well, that's pretty typical, whether it is that creationist's ignorance or the same old propaganda spouted off by them to influence others. The concept of human evolution is that we and the monkeys and the apes descended from a COMMON ANCESTOR, not from each other.

But you will never get him to engage in a mutual and logical discussion of the the topic - he will twist it every which way but loose (couldn't resist that!).

(c) drowned
(d) beheaded
(e) drawn and quartered
(f) tortured
(g) stoned
(h) impaled
(i) crushed
other humans in the name of atheism? All of the above has been done in the name of God.
They're being ridiculous. It's the sort of thing that people like that have to make up to make themselves feel superior. It's desperate and pathetic.

I think that person who said that was nuts, and people like that give "real" Christan's a bad name.
I wish they would speak for themselves and not include a whole body of believers into their insanity.

same applies to non-believers who get bad mouthed for a hand full of extremest.

Edit...for .Catherine E answer...who do you think throwed the Christan's to the lions, boiled them in oil, put there heads on sticks and has has in some Godless country's persecuted and murdered Christan's, my point goes both way
