hello! okay. so the practice problem says:
Apenas los (yo comprar) estaba feliz.
and i have to conjugate it the right way.
they say the answer is "compre".
i don't get why.. =/
please help.. thanks!!

it is compré (with an accent)
past tense of to buy = comprar
Apenas los compré, estaba felíz.
As soon as I bought them, I was happy. or
I was happy as soon as I bought them.
Now you can see how important the accents are in Spanish.
compre (without accent) wouldn´t have made sense.

Compré (bought) is the past sentence of comprar which means buy. To make it past you must accent the "e" like this é with alt + 130

As soon as you completed your action (buying) you were happy. In english its the same: As soon as I bought them I was happy. Its a one time, completed action, so it requires the preterite tense. You wouldn't say in English, As soon as I was buying them I was happy. Simple past is used in most languages to convey a one time, completed action after an adverb such as apenas...
