We have some emergency expenses that need to be handled in the next couple of weeks that our outside of our normal budget. We don't have any credit cards, and we're trying to avoid any major credit commitments since we will be closing on a new house next month. Also, we don't have perfect credit. It's not awful but not great either. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

check out www.prosper.com, it is a loan site that allows people to post what they need, and other people can view and help finance the loan. Prosper manages the payments so you only have one payment a month.

As much as a hate to suggest it, a credit card may be your best option in the short term. You need to revise your budget TODAY to begin accumulating an emergency fund of 3 to 6 months of expenses. That way, the next time unexpected expenses appear, you can just write a check. If you can't afford to set money aside as an emergency fund, you can't afford to close on the house either.

On a side note: the vast majority of 'emergencies' are in fact predictable. You may not know WHEN your car will break down, but you know it WILL break down. A good budget sets aside money to cover such expenses when they come up.
