Your kitten is going to feel lonely the first couple of nights. Keep a cardboard box by your bed with something that smells like you so the kitten will get used to it. Make sure the litter box is ready to go. Put the kitten in there first thing so it knows where the bathroom is. Cats are naturally curious so if you have any vents or holes uncovered, cover them. Do not give your kitten milk, although it might seem like a good idea it will make your kitten sick. For indoor cats get indoor cat food formula. Follow food charts on food bags. Set boundaries from the start. If you don't want your cat playing with your plants use a spray bottle and spray them so they know not to do that. Make sure you get your kitten checked out by a vet and get their shots. Self feeders are great but cats tend to eat if they are bored so be careful with that. Plastic balls are great. Feathers will come back up in fur balls.

I've had cats and kittens all my life. All you need to do is make sure you have kitten food (NOT adult cat food) and try to stay with one brand - it's healthier for the kitten and easier on the stomach. Make sure to have plenty of cat litter too. When using a litterbox, start out with a smaller, open box (Not a hooded one just yet - kitten might not be big enough to climb in) Also, make sure to make an appointment with a vet to get kitten's shots and a full check up. Provide fresh clean water daily, even if the water looks clean. And don't forget to provide plenty of toys and affection ;) Make sure to watch the kittens behavior. Some like to chomp on wires and plants, so be sure to fully "kitten-proof" your home! Good luck...

Please do some research first, while you are waiting for your kitten to arrive. Kittens are NOT independent... they will depend very strongly on you for quite a while. You are going to be its new "mom" for a while. If your new kitten is very young, you will need to be sure it eats often enough. Also, get over to your vet as soon as you can to get a checkup and find out what shots will be needed at what ages, and to be sure the little darling is in good health. Do a search online for kitten care... or go to your library and get some books. You can also contact a local animal shelter and obtain a ton of brochures and information.

You need to get a water bowl, food bowl, kitten food, litter box, litter and lots of love. He is going to lonely for a while so you need to give him lots of attention by playing with him, holding him etc. They love the little balls with bells in them and the mice with the featherly little tails. He'll need a place to sleep but i have found they are much happier with a cardboard box than the fancy cat beds. Set aside a small area of the house for him to get accustomed to before introducing to the whole house like a utility room or bathroom.

Invest in a good scratching post, plenty of toys and a break-away collar (the kind if it gets caught on something, it breaks away instead of strangling the cat.) and GOOD (not cheap) litter. Make sure you plan thorough quality time for your pet, because the love you put into an animal will be returned!

Make sure you get it some toys and a scratching post. Show the cat it's litter box and make sure you show it the scratching post. That way your furniture will be saved. Just take time out every day to play with it. A cat is pretty independant so it needs little care/attention.
