The Bible was loosly put in the order that it happened, but not always..
The chapters and verses are put by man to help find where you are and can be ignored if you want..
The books of the Bible usually have a narrative in the front of each book on when it was written and by whom..
Any table of contents would have been man made to help find your place.

The sequence is man made. It is not listed in chronological order as some books were written prior to others in history. As I understand it Moses wrote the pentateuch first. As for the new testament, The gospel of Mark was the first one written. If you look at the modern Hebrew or Jewish torah, you notice that those books are in a slightly different order than the Christian version. It was decided by the canonizing body (The Canon Of Origen (A.D. c. 185 - 254) The priests tried to put a logical order to the manuscripts in their posession. It is difficult to say with accuracy when some manuscripts were written, as some like Psalms were written by a number of people. but I think they did a pretty good job. Hope this helps.

You know of course you ask a ridiculous question. The Bible is a compilation. It was written by inspired men and its “Table of Contents” is the canon of the church. (The church in this case would be the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Eastern Orthodox churches)
But then your question was designed to create descent and not to acquire knowledge.
The RCC, EO and Protestants all have a slightly different canon based on their magisterial doctrine. You can see the differences here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Books_of_the_Bible
The OT was pretty well sealed by the Hebrew canon but the Christian Bible does not track it exactly. The RCC incorporated the Apocrypha (books of the Bible that are included in the Vulgate and Septuagint versions of the Christian Bible, but not in the Protestant Bible or the Hebrew canon) primarily to distinguish themselves from the Protestants at the Reformation.
The majorities of those books were Historical and not included in the Protestant canon because of historical inaccuracies. And I don’t believe that any of them affect doctrine.
The NT canon is much less diversified and attests to its status as Christian Orthodoxy.

The sequence is human made. Back in the early middle ages when these things were decided, they determined the order by length. The major prophets and minor prophets are referred to that way not because of their importance, but because of their length. The NT gospels were ordered the way they are not chronologically, but from longest to shortest, also the letters of Paul. The Table of contents is should be at the front of your Bible. (Assuming you're really asking and not making a point):p

Sequence is man made and it is in the front of the Bible. The Bible is not in the order that it was written.
The Bible does tell you to read, "line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little." In other words you are searching out Scripture.
There are many great commentaries written by men of God that to discover them would take years of study. The missing lineage of the line of Jesus is very interesting. God cursed 3 men and literally wiped them out of the lineage of Christ for their wickedness. If you ever think the Bible has a contradiction, the truth is that you haven't understood the true meaning as yet.

the sequence of the books of the bible is for the old testament mainly in chronological order, (except for Job). The books of the new testament are put in the logical order that would be necessary. Gospels are first, epistles second, and Revelation last, since it goes over events of the future.
And yes the order is man made, but it follows a logical order and doesn't make anything in the Bible go out of place.

Depending on what version you read (Catholic, Jewish, Christian) determines the order. Originally, it was individuals scrolls.
