actually- no-
the truth is that the tradition to give a young child with "asthma" a chiwawa- is that as the child grows, he improves his breathing, and chiwawas usually sound kind of "wheezey" as they get older- so -
people assumed the dog took away the breathing condition from the child - but it's only folklore
chance are really- the "pet dander" may actually serve to worsen the condition of someone who has a real case of asthma -
eat more fresh greens, veggies, and fish, (and take your vitamins) may improve breathing conditions - more than holding a little doggy- thats for sure!

Asthma is an allergy and is triggered by something. The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Common triggers are smoke, dust, mold, mildew, plants, dust mites, pets and grass/weeds.
If you can not figure our your triggers, you may need to see an allergist and have allergy screening done. This may point out your triggers.
The National Asthma Prevention Program and the Expert Panel of Diagnosis and Management of Asthma both agree if you have to use a prescription inhaler such as albuterol more then two time per week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need a prescription controller medication.
Controller medications are steroids (Asthmacort Asthmanex, Flovent, Pulmocort), Leukotriene modifier (Singulair, Aculade, Zyflo) or mast cell stabilizers (Cromolyn sodium, Intal, Tilade).
You may want to talk to your doctor about several strong controller medications and maybe Xolair shots.
If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

It seemed to work for my sister. However, she was only 3 or 4 at the time and I hear childhood asthma goes away with age. Wouldn't hurt to try it. It'd give you a bedtime buddy anyway. The dog didn't suffer any ill effects, so it's not like the asthma transferred to the dog.

No, a chiwawa will not take ashtma away, but it is said that they won't exasperate your asthma. One side-effect of having a chiwawa is you'll have an insatiable desire for Taco Bell.

No. Chiuauas present less allergens to those who want a dog but are allergic. Allergies such as those to pets can cause asthma attacks. Dogs cannot make asthma go away, but they can cause it.

My mother in law swore that her asthma got better after getting a Chihuahua...... Personally I think it's an old wives tale.

First of all the correct spelling is: CHIHUAHUA
(Mispelled words are a pet peeve of mine. Editing is as natural to me as breathing.)
To answer your question, Chihuahua's shed therefore anyone with allergies or asthma should think twice about owning one.
If you really want a dog, I suggest a poodle. They shed very, very little if at all.

NO, they are shedders. You need a dog that doe not shed. Try a teacup poodle. They are cuddly and lovable!
