Because they feel you are one sided when in actuality you both are one sided, each believing exactly the opposite. I think each of you need to get off the shoulder of the road and venture toward the middle of the road, that's where the truly open minded are.

Well, it's not fair to generalize and call all Christians narrow minded. Some Christians are narrow minded but some are not. I happen to not believe the Bible is true, that the world wasn't made in 7 days, and that Jesus didn't raise from the dead. I can't force myself to believe that stuff, even though I believed it as a child. I don't consider that narrow minded, but just what I believe. I am willing to change my opinions if someone can give me good reasons why I should, or offer proof for their claims.

Because Christians hold to objective truths. Logically, when you say that something is true, you automatically say that anything that contradicts it is false. Which makes sense to me. But the commonly held view today is that if someone says something is true, and someone else says the exact opposite, they can both be true. Which is utter garbage and wishful thinking, let's be honest. If something is red, it can't equally be blue. Now when Christians use this sane logic to say that we truly believe 100% in our God, atheists see that as narrow minded and bigoted. It's no more narrow minded than saying that grass is green. It is what it is. We're not going to say, ok but if you say it's orange, it might be. It isn't! It's about time we stopped being so politically correct and easily offended and understood that truth is truth whether people like it or not. We shouldn't be pretending it isn't just to make people feel better. Their eternities are stake. They also don't tend to see the catch 22 which you just pointed out.

How is that being narrow minded? I would say skeptical. You want me to believe that the Bible is Gods word...it was written by men. The reasons for Jesus being born seem to pale in comparison to the monstrosities of today. He parted the sea...turned water into wine...come on,rose from the dead and walked on water,so on and so on.Seems it wouldn't take much effort on His part to make us all believe.Until then guess I will wait for the moon to turn the color of blood.....

Religion encourages faith, which, by definition, discourages critical thinking. Most Christians aren't interested in hearing information, factual or otherwise, which doesn't agree with their dogma.
As a non-Christian, I think it's possible that God made the Earth in 7 days. However, I also think, of all the possible ways we came into being, that is one of the least likely scenarios. For that reason, I am unwilling to hang my beliefs all on that, or any other, Biblical story.

well, if you believe what you are told by faith and take no time to explore it, or even any responsibility to confirm what you are holding to be a model of how you should live your life, what would you call that?
sorry to dissappoint but yes, that statment is true. Christians tend to be very narrow minded and not open to exploring different options and questioning what they are told because questioning (see:doubting) is a sin. Look how your bible talks about thomas the doubter. And he was a disciple. Need i say more?

See?? Narrow-mindedness works both ways, in all groups of people. Narrow-mindedness isn't specified to any one religion, race or political party.
For the record, I'm a non-Christian, but have a lot of friends who are Christian and the funkiest and most out-going people with wide open minds. They have their boundaries as most people do regardless of religion. It gets tricky when you get into generalizations with people like them around. Darn it all anyway.

because (it seems) that Christians refuse to believe the consensus of modern science.
Most scientists believe that the earth is at least 4 billion years old and that evolution is valid, yet many Christians interpet Genesis literally and claim that the earth is 6000 years old and God made everything based solely on the literal interpretation of one old book. Science has evidence to support it, and people from all cultures and religions can back it up.
I'm not saying the bible is false, but Animal Farm isn't about pigs, sheep, and horses, if you get my drift.

Christians are narrow-minded because they reject every one of the other the 2000 possible gods.
They ignore or reject science.
As far as the bible goes, most Christians pick and chose what THEY want to believe.
The bible advocates:
slavery
murder
wife beating
torture
etc.
Is it narrow minded not to believe in THESE too?
Religion is a delusion.

No, that's called being educated on reality. Thomas Jefferson didn't believe that Jesus was the son or incarnation of god, and he didn't believe that Jesus performed miracles or was born immaculately. That didn't make him narrow-minded; it made him a user of common sense.

Every Christian I have ever known is ok up until you do or say something that they don't agree with, then they treat you like you should have tar and feathers thrown on you in the middle of the town....and it always seems like they are trying to cram their beliefs down other people's throats.
It's great that you have something you believe in. I respect all people's beliefs, but it doesn't make you right, nor does it give you the right to tell people they are wrong...and tell them how all of these bad things are going to happen to them for not believing what you do.
