This is not a joke, but a serious question.

good question. I guess both groups of people speak in tongues, hear voices, see things and feel instructed by a higher power to commit certain deeds. The big difference is that one group is aware that they are sick while the other group keeps spreading their disease to others

Their will come a day when all of you will have your answer to this question...When Jesus comes back and the ones left behind will call out but what they are left in will most definitely turn you into Schizophrenia, and all that comes with it....And that is no JOKE I am being serious

schizophrenia is a mental illness in which a person experience negative and positive psychosis. negative effects mean that things that should be their are not

Negative Symptoms - absence of expected behavior (internal):

Emotional vacancy
Impoverished speech
Motivational
Overt apathy
Agoraphobic
Arrhythmic
Catatonia

positive symptoms include:
Delusions - Strange beliefs, which cannot be shaken by logic or reason, e.g. aliens from inner space are invading the earth or belief they are a celebrity, a member of the royal family.

Hallucinations - Hears, sees, tastes or smells things which are not there. Most common is hearing voices which orders: to commit suicide.

Thought reading - Often believe their private thoughts can be read by others, or that thoughts are put into their heads to control them.

Having visions and hearing voices can be seen as delusional. Psychiatrists and society define what is deluded.

To me, some of the beliefs of fundie Christians seem almost delusional. And for some they are. but believing strange or illogical things does not mean someone is delusional. delusional beliefs impair ones ability to function in normal life

some atheists posit that Christians are as crazy as the mentally ill. I think that degrades the mentally ill.

also, i think it is obvious that many religious people are sane. cs Lewis was a noted professor.

some atheists would have you believe that unless you are a reductionist and rationalist-materialist you are deluded.

that arrogance parallels fundie Christians.

It's only schizophrenia if the voice isn't objective (in the sense of "existing independently of the individual mind or perception", rather than "based on observable phenomena"). In other words, if what the Christian hears really does come from an outside (albeit undetectable) source, then it isn't schizophrenia.

Hebrews 11:1 says "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is something that you can't see it's what you believe and hope that you can get. A delusion is something that you think you see that really is not there.

Schizophrenia is not a religion of choice.

Usually the voices a schizo can hear are loud and clear and always tell the person to kill someone, or that they are jesus. You don't hear Christians theses days going around (all of them) that they are all Jesus or one of the apostles or Mohammad or Allah or one of the saints ect, you don't see some Christian dressed up in knights garb going around saying he has to find the Holy Grail and killing people (a schoziod fantasy) left and right. Or some christian who claims to be jesus, but anyone he heals does not get healed.
God speaks to christians 24/7, but we can hardly hear from him, we have to actually sit and be very quite, to hear from him, and he sometimes talks thru his word, thru other people, thru our circumstance, and schizos may get what they call communication thru circumstances, but it is to do something totally freakin weird. Christians may see visions that are not frightening (like a schizo) or like a man following them (like a schizo) or a van showing up all the time (like a schizo) .
Does this help? sometimes along with the voices, a schizo will hear swearing in their head, and anyone would know that the voice along with swear words, cannot be from God, but a schizo does not. Soemtimes a schizo will experience traffic noise in their head along with the voices, their mind is very nosy inside of their head. I don't know how they live like that, its never silent in their mind.

Not all Christians hear voices, & not all Schizophrenics practice Christianity.
