My friend of mine is going to need surgery to amputate his left foot becuase of diabetes. His doctor suggested that he find a surgeon that is specialized with working on obese patients. This being cuz the added risk of death. Does anyone know how to find doctors who do this?

Bariatrics is the name of the specialty. There are bariatic surgeons who do weight control surgery. There are also Bariatirc internists who specialize in the medical management of obese patients.

my best answer for you and your friend would be to call around to doctor offices and ask them.

There's no particular type of doctor associated with obese persons like a doctor associated with the nervous system is a Neurologist. What he means is someone who's used to performing surgery on high-risk patients. If you don't know of any, ask him for a referral.
