Late night, feeling blue because yesterday the people who do these things came to take away my old tom cat, which I loved, I read, online, the Sermon on the Mount, one of this nonbeliever's favorites in the King James Version of the Bible. I am a man who knows himself pretty darn well, and it amuses me to think that I also know a thing or two about the broad spectrum of the human species--and, dear hearts and bold chaps, I'm thinking that some of you who contribute to this site really ought to take the Beatitudes to heart. Jesus is lacking in more than a few of the posts by self-proclaimed Christians here, don't you think? Also, the writing is beautiful and alone worth your time.

Who took your tom cat? That's terrible! There are many peaceful ways to find peace. I'm glad you found one that works for you.

Peace.

Yes, I have read the Sermon on the Mount quite a few times. But, because of your post I think I will go back and read it again. You say that you are an unbeliever, but you are reading the bible. That is awesome! I guess I don't have to tell you that Jesus loves you! Cat

I also think a lot of conservatives should read Jesus more closely. The man was a raging liberal. Blessed are the *peacemakers* for they shall be called children of God, blessed are the meek, turn the other cheek, Jesus was not stingy with the health care (ask Lazrus), fed the poor, stuck up for prostitutes (instead of decrying them as immoral).

Today he would be lumped in the same category with other "radical liberals".

Matthew 4-7 is probably the best part of the Bible, and a wonderful read for believers and non-believers alike...why could any Christian be off-put because anyone would read it, for any reason?

Other great reads in the Bible include the books of Ecclesiastes and Daniel.

A lot more people could use a re-read of the Sermon I'm sure.

The Beatitudes are good words to live by no matter what your belief system. Blessings to you, and sorry to hear about your cat.

Sorry to hear about your Old Tom Cat.
"Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted."

Interesting to note that Jesus meets the needs of believers and non-believers alike through His words.

To receive comfort, we usually need to be mourning our losses (people, animals, possessions, health, jobs, finances, etc., etc.)

The words spoken by Jesus are a power unto themselves wherever they are spoken, undeniable in their beauty and simplicity of spirit.
Jesus is every bit of God we could ever hope to understand and every bit of man we could ever hope to be.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Have you come to realize that you are lost in sin?

"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted."
Are you sorry about the sin in your life..

"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth."
Do you see your proper place before a Holy God?

"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after
righteousness: for they shall be filled."
Have you asked Jesus into your life to be your Lord?

"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy."
Have you like Christ forgiven anyone who has ever wronged you

"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."
Have God given you His righteousness?

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."
Are you at peace with God through Christ?

"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
People will always think you are stupid, have a mental illness even go into physically harming or killing someone because they belong to Jesus..

"Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."

See the above.. I can't count the times the God haters and cultists have called me stupid, one even told me it would be better for the world if I just died... What can I say in return.. Thank you Lord Jesus for allowing me to have the smallest understanding of what the early saints went through to bring the knowledge of the risen Lord to the world... Jim

Try Jeremiah again. "I knew you, before I formed you in your mother's womb."
