that it is true and uses something written by human beings as proof? I have yet to understand that. How do you know? How can any human being on this planet know absolutely for sure what is out there? And how in the world can someone "authorize" a religious book if they're a human being, king or no king? It's so confusing to me.

I think you have answered your own question admirably, so there's no need for confusion. It's the Human Being who sets himself up as God. One should also remember that Humans, like any other species will one day fade away. And the way we are treating our beautiful planet our days are numbered!

Good question. I believe the Bible to be true because it tells me of the world I live in. It describes people with the personalities and passions of those I recognize around me. It tells me of the purpose of life on earth, where I came from and where the future lies and that there is life after death. It is beyond statistical probability that the book was merely the writings from the minds of men and declares itself to be God breathed. After 5000 years the message is still clear. Upon meeting hundreds of people whose lives have been changed much for the better from believing the words in the book I too asked to be shown the truth of the words in the book and was so shown. Thus it altered my thinking and actions. Not all religious or Holy books can describe the details of the personality of God. God is not an impersonal force He is a being with character and attributes we can understand. The Bible presents us with clear verbalized propositions we may either accept or reject. It demands inspection and a conclusion that Jesus was either mad, a liar, or the Son of God. Other religious books may contain elements of the truth but are unable to answer the three questions I had to my satisfaction. The proof is not the authorship of humans but the Divine authorship which will evidence itself if you read it. Have you read it? Also any human being can know exactly what is "in here" (in your heart) and it is that which matters because God deals with you as an individual. But only when you want to know the answers more than you want your own life. The Authorized King James Version of the Bible was translated and published under the Authority of the King. That is how it became Authorized. Hope this helps.

I have yet to understand how people can be so lost, for even if you had the kind of "proof" you seek, you would still deny God. You've got it all wrong anyway, no wonder you're confused.

First of all, I myself like many others in this world don't base my beliefs on any "Religion". My belief comes from God, therefore my belief in God is very strong. God gives me proof of his existence through faith. My faith is what leads me down the right path, not humans. I know absolutely, 100% that there is a God and he watches over me, my family, and my friends. I honestly don't know what I would do without him in my life because He has done so much for me. I feel his presence all the time, therefore I know that He is always with me where ever I go.

As for someone authorizing a book of religion, I only know of one. My creator, the one and only God. For God is the King of Heaven, and it was by his judgement that the Bible be written by the hands of men. God's only Son was sent not to condemn, but to save the world and to justify God's word. The Prince of Peace and The Lord of Lords, My Savior Jesus Christ, sits by the right hand of God in his Holy Kingdom awaiting the time for the prophecy to be fulfilled.

Peace be with you my friend.

There is no proof of God. He is accepted by faith. However the love letter that He gave us, the Bible, has many prophecies that have come true. There is also no proof that He doesn't exist. This is the reasons that I believe in Jesus, not religion.

The Bible is God's written Word to us.
It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)

Breakdown of the Bible
36 human authors inspired entirely by God over 1600 years.
66 separate books

39 Old Testament
Genesis- The creation of the world, sin, flood and birth of Israel
Exodus to Esther- History of the nation of Israel
Job to Proverbs- The books of poetry and wisdom
Isaiah to Malachi- Prophecy or foretelling of the future events to come.

27 New Testament
Matthew to John - Four Gospels representing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ now with all authority in Heaven and earth.
Acts- Birth of the Church (The Bride of Christ)
Romans to Jude - Letters to the Churches
Revelations - The ultimate future plans for: The Church, Heaven, Hell, a New Heaven and a New Earth.

How do you know what salt tastes like if someone tries to tell you what it tastes like and you have never tasted salt before?
How do you know what it tastes like if you have never tried it?
The same goes with an understanding of what is true and what is false.
In my religion/ church we are constantly told to go and ask God if anything they or anybody else teaches is true or not.
We are asked to live the commandments found in holy scripture and by living it we reap the consequeces of living the commandment. If it is bad then we get bad results; if it is good then we get good results.
Our church leaders are there simply to teach and we are there to try it out. But again and again we are taught to ask God and he will let us know in our heart and mind if it is true or not and He only gives if we put out the effort to obey the commandment. This is faithful obedience that leads to a sure knowledge of what we can begin to believe to be true or not.
If you do not try the salt then you will never know that it tastes like salt.
You have to ask questions: What kind of fruit does this religion produce? Do they honestly adhere to what has been written in their holy books?
Try the works of that faith and you will know by and by if it is good or not.
So far I have met very few people who belong to a religion that fully believes in a practical or historical context what has been written in their holy books.
This doesn't go just for faith and religion. Did you know that scientific practice is based on faith.
A scientist postulates a theory or asks a question.
He then creates experiments to observe and test the phenomenon in question.
He records the results or the fruits of the experiments.
He then draws a conclusion from the results of the experiment.
The scientist had to believe or have faith in something he thought to be true, whether or not it was true and then he had to go out and do something about it! Most of the time the results of experimentation are no good; other times the results are very rewarding and in cases very beneficial not only to the scientist but to all of mankind.
The same goes for religion and the attendant books of religion.
Only God can authorize scripture and he does that through revelation, prophets and the Holy Ghost giving us a witness of the truth (personal, individual revelation) of that scripture.
Truth about God and the nature of God and the destiny of man exists in bits and pieces throughout humanity and history. It is up to us to find it in its completeness.
I hope this helped. If you are interested in knowing more please ask.

King James authorized the English Bible we now call the King James Bible. Experts designated by their peers had worked on it even before he was born, and saying that he alone authorized it is a fallacy. The work was completed in his reign and it was therefore authorized for publishing, not by him, but by those who translated and ensured that it was true to the original texts. He only OK ed that work, which was done for his and his kingdom's benefit.
There was up to that time, a need for a Bible in English.

with its popularization in the vatican, propaganda is to blame for the spread of religious fallacy...by giving the public no other choice than to believe what they are told, through the use of intimidating language and/or sentimentally appealing phraseology, the church has been able to ensure certain propagation of human minds into its massive money making cult..."you don't need to take drugs to hallucinate; improper language can fill your world with phantoms and spooks of many kinds" - Robert A. Wilson...that is why, to the religious mind, religion "is true and uses something written by human beings as proof"...

well, your question can be address to people, believers or non who believe in certain theories of science as well. They are also 'written by human beings as proof'.

If you don't wish to be so confused, just keep studying on your interests, read and sponge up/ store information and before you know it you'll be more knowledgeable.

Humans search for meaning in life. Religion is a way to find that meaning. We all look for an answer, some just want the answer given to them.

Specific to the Bible, is the proclamation by the writers that they themselves did not "author" it alone.
Written over a period of 1500 years, there are 66 books by 40 different writers.
Yet a single theme prevails throughout.

The writers were human, the author was the Holy Spirit.
