Hi,

I installed a new radio and speakers last week. Everything was working perfect until today when I hit a pothole. It went silent. The radio seems to be working perfect except that I get no sound. When I turn it on I get a crackle in my drivers side front speaker then it goes silent. For a second or two it worked then stopped again. To make sure it wasnt the radio I plugged my old factory unit in and it was the same. It seems to do everything except sound. Would a short in one speaker make the others stop working? Any other thoughts?

Any help would be greatly apprciated. Thanks in advance,
Brett

A short in one of the speakers will shut down the entire radio.
If it works long enough for you to check it, try using the fader and balance to play one speaker at a time. If this works, most of the time you will find that 3 speakers work fine and the 4th will not. This will save you some time trying to figure out which speaker is shorted out.
Check your wiring again as well.

Yes, a short in one speaker will definitely kill the sound from all the speakers. It forces the built-in amplifier to shut down for protection. The most likely cause is that one of the terminals on a speaker has come loose and is now touching a metal surface. I'd check the driver's side speaker first.
