Go to My Computer and open Documents and Settings. Once in there find the file that has the user name you login as and open that file. If you do not see an Application Data file then open the Tools menu in the upper tool bar, select Folder Options then View and make sure that you click the button next to Shoe hidden files and folders. Then open the Application Data folder, select Mozilla, Firefox, Profiles. Find the file labeled Bookmarks and save it to disk or some other media. You can restore it to this directory once you've reinstall Firefox.

I not sure as I not have Mozzila right now as I use Opera. But, normally you can go into Windows Explorer and look in Mozilla Folder for the Folder Bookmarks/Favorites and copy this to a Floppy or Jump Drive. Then after you reinstall everything just replace the empty folder with your old one.

Go to bookmarks, Bookmark manager, and in the window that comes up, go to File and Export. Choose where you want to save your Bookmarks, and there you go. It will be an html file that you can save. I believe you can later import those bookmarks into Mozilla after you format.

Search your boot drive for BOOKMARKS. Firefox uses HTML files for bookmarks. Once search has found them, copy them to some kind of storage (like maybe a thumb drive). They are saved.
