I have a yorkie and she is 3 years old and when i walk her she WILL get the fleas.. She starts to get red, gets alot of scabs, and I sometime see fleas sometimes so i brush her with a flea brush and take her a shower.
I dont use flea medicines.
I have used:
Frontline
Advantage
and other products thats cheaper
But they never work on my dog.

So when i walk my dog she get's the fleas, but when my other freinds walk there dog there dog doesnt get ANY fleas.
They dont even itch one bit
But my dog does!!
My freinds type of dog is-
Maltese/Poodle- 3 years old
Jack Russel Terrior- 1 years old

Is there a reason for this?
Why does only my dog get it?
I have a freind and he has a yorkie to and that yorkie never gets the fleas but mine does..

This is what i do when i take her a shower-
Use oatmeal shampoo
Then
use a flea shampoo
and while the flea shampoo is on, i wait for 3 min without touching her
Then i get the flea comb and comb while the soap is on
BUT
my question is why does my dog get the fleas when i walk her while my other freind's dog doesnt?

Your dog may be more sensitive to fleas. I can't explain it but it seems to me that when an animal has a particular sensitivity to fleas it always seems that they will be the first to get them.

We use Advantage quite successfully on our dogs.

It sounds like your not getting ride of the fleas when they start. Either they are on her or her bedding or another part of the house. She needs to be washed with a flea shampoo, then you use the flea comb. Make sure that you clean the house really well and bug bomb your house if you can to get ride ot all the fleas and their eggs.Talk to the vet about other flea treatments if others aren't working. There maybe another solution for you. Good luck

Ah sadly...the dog is not getting the fleas from outside, rather the fleas she did have are in the carpet in your house where they are happily living and breeding!! Your dog is only food for them, not where they live. Fleas lay eggs in your carpet and furniture and the eggs hatch out every 2 weeks.
No amount of flea prevention for the dog is going to help until you kill them in the house.
The best thing to use is called "Nature's Guardian" powdered form. It is made of all natural oils and is NON toxic but it does have a strong odor.
Your dog may be getting sores from too much bathing or because it is having allergic reactions to the chemical flea treatments.

The best thing is just to keep her on a veterinarian prescribed flea control medication such as frontline, advantage, or Capstar. My personal favorite is Revolution because it's a heartworm, internal parasite, and external parasite preventative all rolled into one. Revolution is a topical medication that only needs to be applied one a month.

Also, your dog may not be getting the fleas from her walks. Fleas can lay their eggs in the environment. So you household carpet or her dog bed can contain fea eggs. She may be getting reinfested in your own home.

well if your asking what you should get for the fleas i suggest a flea collar dont get a very cheap won because it wont work go for one a little bit more then the cheapest because youl lose more money on getting cheaper products then more expensive ones and if you askin why your dog gets fleas and you friends doesn't when you her it could be that she doesn't get the fleas when yo walk but the sunlight could be hatching new fleas hope this helps
