can i learn how to play the flute just by books?

You can learn the basics by looking at the books, but I would also suggest going online you can often find videos or affordable programs that will teach you concepts above and beyond the fingering for the flute (tone, vibrato, etc.)

Very unlikely. The way you hold your mouth is critical to getting good sound from a flute. Without someone to watch you and tell you what you're doing wrong, you are unlikely to learn the proper technique.
