:1.. The color is awesome and so is the clarity. i noticed that the sharps and sonys in that same size have a ratio of anywhere from 1200 to 2500. I am trying to get the best buy but also a great picture. thanks for any help or suggestions.

The highest contrast, the better "blacks". The problem is that not all "contrasts" are measured equal, so be careful.

Samsung is notorious for advertising DYNAMIC contrast, which is higher that TRUE contrast, but meaningless.

These days, true contrast on high-end panels is about 1,200-1,500:1
Dynamic contrast is about 6,000-7,500:1 (typically x4-5 of true contrast)

Oh yes, contrast ratio is a major factor when purchasing a tv. Get the highest contrast ratio you can afford. Get the lowest response time you can afford, 4ms to 8ms and get the highest brightness you can afford, 500cd or higher. And make sure it has more than one HDMI input. Brand name is not important.
