Because it's junior football. It's unarmed combat with a ball.
Nothing to do with sponsorship or the east of Scotland, you're stretching into Old Firm paranoia there.
On the plus side, when a junior player gets tackled, he doesn't roll around like a big jessy. He gets up, waits half an hour so it's not too obvious, then breaks the other buggers leg 'accidentally.'

It was thought that the crowds would be pathetic and the audience figures could not justify the expence of the camera teams ect..
However next year could be brill for the juniors as they are going to be allowed into the scottish cup and i am sure they will be capable of a few surprises..
the revenue from a good scottish cup run could sustain a junior team for years..
some of the better junior teams can easily compete with some of the pro league teams..
it will bring back the magic of the cup...
