Breakfast cooked by a loving wife shared with my kids, then maybe a trip to a lake with a picnic. A card made by my children. A day spent with them having fun and laughing, that is the best reward a father can have. I know

It's all about the arts and crafts! Popsicle sticks, glue, google eyes, feathers, just allow them to get creative and express themself. Homemade cards, a picture frame that holds a picture of them with their dad, it would be really cute.

the 5 yearld can give him a JUMBO home made card.. the 8 year old a gift card. and u something like new slippers thats wat i always get my dad. or a bathrobe, pijamas or a whole outfit. u can always go bargain shopping (i mean get items on sale)
the best place to go is Macy's
that store has very good prices. i always go father's day shopping there.

Get some photos of them with their dad. Paste on A3 paper and let them decorate it. On the back they can write a message to him. Get it laminated - use as placemat.

have them make something like cut a heart out of some paper and tell them to fill it with whats in there heart for there dad and have them give it to them.
