Faith apart from works is Biblical.
"What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter? If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness."
Romans 4:1-5
Your works can add NOTHING to the atonement that is found in Christ.
You can do NOTHING to make the blood of Jesus Christ more efficacious towards redeeming you.
However TRUE faith will ALWAYS produce good works.
Either salvation is a gift, or you earn it. If you can earn it, Jesus died for nothing.

You must take all things together.. not one over the other... Saved by grace through faith is first and you know one has faith by their works... Faith causes one to have the desire to love and to serve and our fruits are visible.
you cannot have one with out the other.... how ever it is NOT work that saves us not our acts only the Lord... God gives us love gives us faith saves us and gives us works to do and the ability to do those works... how ever no amount of good deeds with out faith will get you to heaven

What Jesus was doing was not so much giving a "to do list" of how to get to heaven, but illustrating what living your faith looks like. as Christians, we are called to "take up our cross and follow Christ" we must be willing to leave all else behind and loose everything, even ourselves in order to follow Christ and become new in him. so it is by faith (and living that faith) alone that we are saved.

Yes we are saved by Faith alone and not of works.
There are lots of passages in the Bible which teach this.
James chapter two has a passage which is often quoted out of context, but when you read James chapter 2 in context you'll see that James agrees we are saved by faith alone.

it's only "biblical" if you take a verse out of context. I think works are a part of the real, living faith.

If faith is all they needed, why would all of that other stuff even be in their bible?
Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Mat 25:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
Mat 25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
Mat 25:44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
Mat 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of the least of these, ye did [it] not to me.
Mat 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
Clearly there are works involved.

It is by faith and faith alone that we are saved; but the faith that saves is never alone.
That is the best way I've heard faith and works explained.

the point is you are SAVED by god's grace through your faith. you cannot achieve salvarion by anything you do or dont do because you inherited original sin from adam. It doesnt mean you shouldnt do good works too.

It is faith that saves us. Works "merely" prove that we have faith. In other words, anyone who says they have faith but doesn't also have works is, according to the bible, lying.

Amen, brother! And something dead is rotting, putrid, and worthless. Faith is what saves, while works are the proof.
