This is an instinctive behavior. Not all dogs display it and it is unusual that they roll in their own poo. Usually they roll in something smelly and often the poo of another animal such as cow poo or horse poo. I think your dog is rolling in its own poo because that is all it has access to.
They do this to cover their own smell. It works two ways for them. Lets say a dog is stalking a rabbit and the rabbit hears something then smells a horse (a dog that has rolled in horse poo). It is not going to run away because it has never been attacked by a horse. And say the dog is being tracked by a mountain lion, comes upon horse poo, rolls in it and heads off. Now the lion is going to be confused as the dog's smell has vanished and only the horse smell wanders off. This gives the dog an advantage to escape, whether it knows it or not. That is why I say it is instinctive behavior, not learned behavior.
Instinctive behavior is the hardest of all behaviors to correct, though not impossible. It is usually dealt with by avoidance. That is, pick up the poo so the dog has nothing to roll in.

First, you should congratulate yourself on having a very normal, well-adjusted pooch, hehe. Dogs, for some reason, like dead animals, manure (poop!), and garbage are magnets to dogs, and there is nothing in the world they'd rather smell like. Some people theorize that dogs' instinct tells them that the terrible smells will cover up their scent and make it easier for them to sneak up on prey.
Maybe so, or maybe they just like to smell awful! Regardless of why they do it, the best way for you to stop your doggy from diving into the garbage pile is never giving him the chance.
Keep him fenced in your yard, pick up any poop in the area, and keep the garbage in trash cans that won't pop open if he knocks them over. Keep him on a leash when you go on walks, and keep a sharp eye out for any smelly things that may strike his fancy.
Working on the "come" command may help as well. Practice it over and over again in your yard, and give her a reward every time she comes. Repeat it until she comes consistently, so that the next time you see her start rolling, you can call her back. And, of course, you should invest in some very good doggie shampoo. Just in case.
Hope this helps!!

My brother has the same problem too. He likes to roll around in his poo. Some animals and people just like to do that, that's all. I tried it a few times, but it just wasn't my thing. Maybe if I could get a girl to roll around in my poo with me, it would be better.

Maybe hes trying to tell you that you don't clean up after him and he doesn't like it. Please clean up after your dog, other people don't like it either.
