Generally, female dogs have their first heat cycle anywhere between 6 and 9 months, and then every 6 months after that. If you are looking to breed your female, keep in mind that it is often advised to wait until her second cycle to breed, that way she is a bit older and more mature. Also, when breeding its also a good idea to skip every other cycle in order to give the dog a rest and let her body heal. Its just like a human, The doctors advise to wait a while and let your body return to normal. When breeding think how you would feel to pop out baby after baby after baby with no rest in between. And By the way, 2 litters a year is the MAX that is even possible.

Keep in mind as well that some breeds aren't very good mothers. Be prepared to bottle feed your pups, they have puppy milk at pet stores and wal-mart.

For dogs like English Bulldogs, breeding can be a very time consuming and expensive venture. They have to be Artificially Inseminated, and almost always require a c-section. After the puppies are born, you cant reave them alone with their mother, because she will most likely crush them with her size.

OK, Here is the real answer... It is NOT possible for a dog to have 3 litters a year. Heat cycles are 6 months apart and here is how it would go.. Lets say Jan.1st she comes into season. You would breed around the 14TH day and puppies would come around the middle of March 63 days after the breeding. The dog is not coming back into season for another 4 to 5 months after the pups are born so now its Late July/to mid August.. She comes in season again and is bred mid August , pregnant for 2 months/63 days so now it'sMid October.. she will not have another cycle for another 6 months so there for there can be no 3 litters in one year.
IF the dog doesn't have a season until March or April, then only one litter will happen that year.

ALL THAT SAID... It would be asanine to plan such breeding. A ****** should not have more then 2 or 3 litters her lifetime. Puppy mills and other ignorant people will breed them until they die to line their pockets but it is disgusting and shows these people really do not love their dog as it puts the dogs life at major risk. Spy and Neuter your pets. If all you care about is how many litters you can get out of them then you really do not deserve the devotion of a dog.

As the other person answered. They can be bred each time they come into heat. For some breeds this is only once a year, for others, more often. Unless your dog is of championship lines, you are showing and taking titles, you should not be breeding. Spay your female and do her a favor. And they aren't kids...they are puppies. Dogs are not people!

Let's assume she gets bred her FIRST heat at six months old. At 6 months she gets pregnant. Around 8.5 months she'll have the puppies. Right after this, she gets pregnant again. Two months later? She has puppies again.

It's POSSIBLE she could have three litters a year. However, doing that would probably kill the dog within that year, she might last two. Don't do it. 1 litter per year is MORE than enough.

Well a dog can go into heat about every 3 months. So in theory she can get pregnant up to 4 times a year. By the way this is not a good idea. Do you want to breed her? If you do you should talk to your vet. There are risks when you breed your dog. They can have pregnancy related complications. If you aren't going to breed her you should have her spayed. The risk of mammory cancer is almost non exsistant if spayed prior to their first heat. Also unspayed dogs can get a uterine infection called pyometra. This requires emergency surgery. It's more common in older intact dogs but can happen at any age.

if you insist on breeding she shouldn't be bred until the second heat and tehn every other heat as this takes a lot out of a dog. the best thing is to have her spayed by the time she is 6 months and before her first heat.
Hope this helps
Otherwose it depends on teh dog and the heat cycle.

There can be a lot of reasons: The mother feels threatened and this is an extreme reaction to "protect" her babies. The mother is not mature enough physically/mentally to raise a litter. The mother detects a defect and is culling her pups. In any case, this ***** needs to be spayed, there is no reason to breed a neurotic dog.

I don't really know, but I'm guessing twice a year maybe. If a female is bred too many times though, its really stressful having litter after litter of puppies. It reminds me of a puppy mill (*cringes in horror*).

But if you have a female dog, please please don't breed it. There are enough stray dogs and unwanted puppies in shelters, awaiting their fate.

Twice a year, about every two months after puppies are weaned can get pregnant again. If you don't want all the problems please get her spayed. I know of someone who's dog was about 13yr and still having pups.

Let's hope never. Get it spayed. In our community, the shelters are full of puppies--- on the news earlier in the week, three to a cage waiting to be adopted. In this country, 5 MILLION are given the needle every year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
