My main reason for abandoning all forms of religion because I want to live a quality life on Earth not filled with fear. I learned that this life is a sure thing and afterlife is only as strong as persons belief in it

Try reading the Book of Jonah. It might help you understand why things no matter how specific have been the predictions, there is always a chance it could be averted.
The End is Near and it had been warned for many hundreds of years since even before the time of Jesus.
Go back also to the time of Abraham when he was begging God to save Soddom and Gomorrah if he could find at least ten good people within the city. when no one was found the rest was history and all we could remember was the name of the destroyed cities.
You should not be disappointed at all and we should be thankful that at least there are still good numbers of people who are worth having for God to consider the safety of the world.

But don't you see, the end IS near. It comes to each of us at the END of our lives. And since we never know when or how that will happen, what's wrong with living your life with that awareness? How is it wasteful to work for the furthering of Christian goals? Don't EACH of us have the right to further whatever goals we wish?

"29 He told them this parable: 'Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
32 'I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. '"
Yep, seems Jesus was fairly certain the disciples would see his second coming. Maybe everyone just missed it?

Well, when we die it is the end, for us anyway. But most of us don't just live our lives to see the end, recognizing the signs of the end of time,as the bible speaks of,is just an acknowledgement of what we believe.I myself see the signs but I don't know when it will come, and wether we are alive or dead at the second coming,we will all be there. The dead will be reserected and all will be sorted out or judged.

That's a trick question with an easy trick answer:
Live as though today were your last day on Earth, and plan as though you'd never die.
If you did that, how can you be disappointed?
