Our power outlets are 240v. If you are bringing things like a PC, i pod, mobile phone and they have there own transformer to be recharged then they will be fine. All you need is an adapter to be able to plug it into the wall.

In all the big hotels have hair driers in the bathroom. If you are staying with friends and want your own hair drier then you are better off buying one here. They are as cheap as $10.00 AU dollars.

If you are bringing your mobile phone, this is something to think about. You can buy prepay mobile phones here for as cheap as $65.00 AU and you get to take it home with you. It will works out a lot cheaper to make calls home with the prepay mobile than using your American mobile phone.

The weather is getting very cold here so pack warm clothes. Don't over pack because the winter sales are about to start so you can pick up some bargains. It's even better value for you with the US dollar againt the Aus dollar.

Australia is 220-240v 50hz; the USA is 110v 60hz. You can buy a transformer that converts 240v to 110v so your appliances will work but the transformer will not change 50hz to 60hz. This means that your electrical equipment that runs directly off mains power will run a little slower. Things like electric toothbrushes that are recharged by the base will work normally if there is a transformer for the base connection.

G'day,

I take it that it is electrical outlets you are asking?

Please find a link to a company website that supply electrical adaptors between one system to another.

Please be aware of different voltage. Best to check if the electrical devices that you bring have dual voltage switch so you can switch to 220V-240V current when in Australia. Dun forget to change it back when you are back to US :)

Hope this helps. Good luck on your trip and welcome to Australia :)

an adapter won't work - we have 220 v you have 110v. you will need a converter to convert from 110 to 220.
you can also buy travel appliances like hair blow dryers or men's electric shavers that have built in switches to convert to either power.
most hotels have hair dryers in the rooms. also you can buy very cheap ones at Kmart here in oz.

Yeh american appliances won't work because of the differing voltages. I had an unfortunant incident involving a canadian import and an adapter.....I'll just say there was an explosion and I was like "what the?!"

Just so you know...........

When Aussies refer to 'outlets', they are usually referring to a shop or store.

We call them power points here. They look like a 'Scream' face mask!

No they are not the same. But you can buy a adapter from shops to plug in your American appliance such as hair dryer, phone charger etc.

Luggage shops have them at airports - or any department store.
