Ok we got a lift home sat night and the taxi driver didnt have his seat belt on and when i commented he told me it was the law that he didnt have to because of risk of passengers pulling it round his neck???? was this a load of wibble wobble????

In English law the driver of—
(i) a licensed taxi while it is being used for seeking hire, or answering a call for hire, or carrying a passenger for hire, or
(ii) a private hire vehicle while it is being used to carry a passenger for hire
is exempt from seat-belt requirements

A hackney carriage driver is exempt from seat belt laws whilst carrying passengers and whilst plying for hire within the area in which the cab is licensed.
A private hire car driver is only exempt whilst carrying passengers

All drivers, professional and otherwise, should wear seat belts. In many states, it is the law, and to get caught not doing so will cost you. In Washington state, the fine for not wearing a seat belt is 101 dollars! In other states, it is even more.

Depends on the state in which you live..In the city i live, taxi drivers are required to wear a hat while driving..if not i get to pull them over and give a ticket.

There are a few exceptions to the belt law, one of them being taxi drivers and only if they are carrying fare-paying passengers.

Although in some states the passengers don't have to wear their safety belts, the driver does.

well i think they should because my taxi driver always wears his seat belt so!!
