I can tell you using the Bible but I'd like to see "reason" squirm its way out of this one.

Sociopathology, Church Lady.. he started off killing small animals (well okay watching someone else do it as a way to make him happy) and he got bored with it, so.. he moved up to humans.. even so far as to go for his own family member (typical of this type of pathology)

How's that for reason? ;)

You're asuming that the bible is right. Why would an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being need to scarifice his son to forgive us? That's not even a logical or reasonable question. Doesn't make any sense to me. I say he didn't. It's just a metaphore to convince ignorant and superstitious people to believe (look he has risen, isn't that proof enough!!?) The short answer is no, it isn't. The bible has been used to justify the deaths and mistreatment of too many people for too long, for me to have any confidence in most of what it says. The word of god is in the bible but it is hard to find and most Christians try to explain it away as they use it to confirm their own warped view of reality.
