The title says it all. What are the advantages of having a female, or male dog?

I have always preferred male dogs, but the disadvantage is that they might pee to mark territory. Females, if not spayed, have periods & go into heat which causes all of the male dogs within sniffing distance to jump your fence if possible. Most problems with male dogs are solved by neutering also. And if you're one of those people who ask how I can do that to a dog, I also had myself "fixed" years ago, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

I have always had female dogs and was worried about having a male until I got one a few years ago. My boy is so much more loving than my female is. He is a bit wilder and spunkier, but he is the one that wants the most attention and is a love bug while my girl is usually one to stay by herself unless she wants attention and is pretty independent.

As long as you're spaying or neutering the dog, there's no big difference. If you don't neuter, males tend to wander off and mark their territory, while females can develop uterine infections or mammary tumors. Both males and females can be dominant or submissive, the best way to know what you're getting is to spend time with him or her before adopting (or buying - but adopting the way to go!)

Depends on the individual dog.
Dog behavior varies so much, that it is impossible to say which is better.
Choose a dog that suits your personality and lifestyle, regardless of the sex.
Have the dog fixed immediately or asap, and most of the gender problems disappear.
Hope this helps.

I have a female dog. She seems to be more independent and stubborn than males. She doesn't snuggle up to me, but she loves being held. She loves attention and being groomed. Typical princess.

Boys seem to pee more freely and bark more.
