I'm making a 13 year olds room bright orange. She has a huge room, bigger than most children's. Its a very bright, deep, orange. I don't know if I should paint the whole thing orange, or if that will look too much. If I only paint one wall orange, what should I do with the other walls? Just leave them white?

(she likes bright colors)

I would suggest either just ONE wall or pnly part of the walls painted Orange.
I am an interior designer and I know from experience that bright colors in a bedroom make it hard for people to relax and fall asleep. Here's an idea or two....
Either just do one wall the bright orange and the other walls some other color that blends well with you r bright color, but is not bright. Maybe a pariwinkle or light blue or a light lime green. Any light yellows or off-whites will also blend well, and will calm down the stimulating brightness of the orange wall.
OR you could measure and tape a horizontal line or even a wavy line on each wall and only paint the bright orange on the bottom half of that line. You can pick a calmer color for the top, or even just a lighter more peachy orange for the top color. This will be a bold statement with out being too straining on ones eyes.
Have fun deciding!

It depends on what she is planning for the rest of the room.
Either paint two facing walls orange and the other two a second, less bright color [ like white or ivory ]; or
paint the bottom halves of the walls orange, and do ivory/ white on the tops with a skinny orange stripe [ 2-3" wide ] about every foot.
Measure all this ahead so it looks even, and continue pattern from wall to wall, also so it looks even.

i agree w/ cuppycake in some of her suggestions. Kids like bright & if u'r willing to do brite.. go 4 it. But NOT all the walls. U could pick shades of the orange including creme.. or do horiz or vertical stripes on 1 or 2 walls. I would pick the walls that u would c when u walk into the room then do adjcant or opposite. u could do horiz. stripes around the room w/ the orange on the top then creme/white then anthr color on top or do several the creme stripes diff sizes in the middle or 3/4 of the way up.

U could paint diff. size circles/stars/diamons/flowers/hand flwrs/rectangles things like that on the orange to tone it down in anthr color... creme/lim gr/ blues/red. If u add a lighter color w/ the brights it will help in not making it seem so .. OUT THERE.

Do accessories in one of the colors.. lamps/shades/curtains/ pillows/ chairs/furniture/bed spreak... pin up boards/ frames/ shelves... Keep the furniture the same color then do the accessories the same or w/ 1 of the color.

Got to the paint store p/u several colors that u like that r going together.. P/u several OF that color.. come home.. tape it to the wall & look at it thruout the day at the different lt from day to nt.

Also incorporate some fabrics for texture. like for pillows, cushions/ but don't OVER do it.

Have fun & if it doesn't work... u can always paint over it!

You could do one of the bigger walls bright orange and do some sort of decortive thing on that wall. For example you could paint little circles or square of other colors (pink, purple, yellow) to make the wall pop. Then you could paint the other walls a more toned down color.

You can still make her room look very bright with a multi-colored comforter.

yes, painting all walls will be too much orange! are you a giants/tigers/orioles fan? maybe split the colors? place a trim in the middle and paint top white or super light powder blue and the bottom part orange? or just sponge the orange with a white background?

I'd say be brave and paint them all orange, and you'll be surprised... the key thing is that "she likes bright colors"!

let other colors in the room be either neutrials or/and less intense colors... use enough warm lighting...

This is good for a big room...!

personally I'd go for the opposite walls being different co lours like two orange and two of a light colour like cream, try and find out which wall catches the sun as this could be really effective with orange
