calculate the xl from the coil size and no. of turns, to receive radio frequency make sure the coil is air core not metallic core. then parallel this coil with a variable capacitor of xc, the tuned frequency occured at resonance when xl=xc.

better signal is received when the antenna is connected to a large metallic object

The coil is part of the tuned circuit and if u increase it u will be tuning it to a much lower frequency. The crystal is the diode to change the radio waves into pulsing DC. You need a good long antenna, The higher impedance the head set the smaller signal u will be able to hear . U might try an emitter follower ,with a fet. They are very high impedance.

The goal of any political leader is the protection of his people. This is a mind set that has been a part of politics since people first began building walls around their settlements. To overcome this human ideal is no small task. 5000 years of semi-success has kept the arms race a constant. Of course, we know that there is always someone stronger who comes along, who later is taken down by someone strong then they. I believe that until we can learn compassion and empathy, wars will still occur. This is no easy task. It starts with teaching the young, as well as ourselves. And, it won't happen overnight. It will probably take many generations, but as the saying goes, "there's no time like the present."
