Help! I recently took my battery out of my 1989 Volvo. Now my radio doesn't work! My radio is now asking my for a 'code' to type in to gain access (I am assuming). But I don't know any codes, have any codes, or know how to reset the code.

I have the user's manual for the car, which is absolutely no help, but I think taking the battery out made everything reset and that's why it is asking me for a 'code'. Any assistance would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Some car radio's have an anti-theft setup where if you lose power to the radio--like when it's stolen, the radio will lock up and you have to enter a code to reset the radio. Unfortunately, when you replace the battery, the same thing happens. Try a site called http://www.radio-code.com/?OVRAW=radio-code&OVKEY=radio%20code&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=839753521&OVKWID=7086818521 to get the code or contact the original selling dealer to see if they have the code in their records or any Volvo dealer may be able to get it for you with your ID and the VIN number.

Just write down the vehicle vin number, call a Volvo dealership and ask for the radio code for that vin number, assuming it hasn't been replaced before. But if the code doesn't work then you need to get access to the serial and part number of the radio in your car which is on a sticker attached to the top case of the radio. So you must pull the radio out to get it. Good luck dude.

Contacting a dealer with the VIN# will allow them to access Volvo's website to obtain your radio code. The results are spotty with the older models, just FYI.

Best bet is dealer with 1. VIN # 2. Proof of ownership.3.Valid ID. and the serial # off the radio. Vin # doesn't always work ,unit may have been changed. Serial # of radio is best. Some dealers will make a charge for this service.
