No, I don't think you are insane. To be a genuine Freethinker means to consider all possiblities. Why shouldn't that include thoughts about God? I find it ironic that some people regard themselves as freethinkers, and yet are as entrenched in their atheism as some Fundamentalists are in their beliefs. Explore what makes sense to you. Talk to other people, but don't worry about their opinion of you. Grab onto what works for you, and let the rest go.

Agnostic means to know. Theist (Deist Latin) means believer in God. Atheist means without God, not a believer in God.
You can miss use words all you want, but that does not mean you are insane. But before you combined freethinker (rational thought without prejudice) and humanist (believer in man), I suggest you understand what is belief and what is non belief.
Answer: Insanity would be the best case for a person without belief. You can not claim not to know something and then tell us you believe it. It just confuses us.

Cerebral Assassin, you probably are insane, but not for the reasons in question. Then again, reason probably ain't your forte, anyhow? That well known ACLU lawyer Dershowitz(?), recently came out with a book on the founding fathers. I haven't read it. He commented that Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin; and others were Deists. He said the word "agnostic" wasn't used yet. I think you'd be just fine with those labels.

no, not really.
The fact that your a freethinker and open minded would show the exact opposite.
I consider myself an Theist, but I will readily admit I might be wrong. I guess under that definition I would be considered an Agnostic Theist.

I think it's okay to believe whatever you want.
If you just aren't sure I think that is the core of being an agnostic. But, I don't think there are any real rules.
I'm pretty much where you're at. I believe it's a possible there is a god but I'm really not sure.

Since I am Agnostic Deist, I say it is not wrong.
We should all go by what makes sense to us. I don't think it is wrong to believe or not believe. I think it is wrong to use God as justification to hate and remain ignorant. I am sure you know what group that was directed at.

If you were an Agnostic/Athiest, you would just be smart. "God" is merely illusion. Our brains are not designed for contemplating existence, but some of ours do anyway. We are designed to hunt and survive. To survive in the wilderness, you need a goal. Religion is that 'goal', or atleast an alternative to it. Our minds are designed to follow goals. Most people would go crazy if they found out god was fake.

not insane - i often feel this way; but i prefer to say that i believe in "something else" - it cant be defined, but it is the definition of all things - and i love the word "maybe" - it means that you can search, learn and redefine things forever (you dont need to have specific results in any pursuit) --- the most important thing to me is the journey; the seeking.

No. God is revealed through people. Anybody can see signs of it. It doesn't have anything to do with religion.
