I've had my cat who is now 15 months old since he was 6 weeks old. He has always had extremely strong urine and feces. The smell is nearly unbearable. We've tried Dad's food that is supposed to help with Urinary Tracts but it did not affect it. Is there any brand of food that is good at combatting this? We bought a covered litter box to cut down on the smell and clean it daily but it's still terrible. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your suggestions. To address a few: My cat is fixed, I got him from the SPCA. Even when he was on the Science Diet from the Vet his urine/feces was still as strong. I will call my vet and ask about getting a urinalysis done. He's up for a check up this month anyway. I know cats smell, I've had many...just never like this. My other cat who was raised with him is nowhere near as bad. Thank you though and if anyone still has anything to add I welcome your help! :)

I have the same issue with a cat. Not much you can do, just empty the litter box more often.

First, nuture or spay your animal. Both female and male cats when they are trying to mark there territory will produce stronger smelling urine. If they are fixed they lose that desire. As far a the poop, my cat had the same problem. Stay away from the wet food, it does nothing but stink! Second buy a high quality dry food blend. This will also help cut back the times they have to change the little box because more food will be absorbed by the cat's body. Also the cat will eat less often as there is less filler in the food.

A strong stinky smell could indicate a urinary infections. He might not be drinking enough water, so the urine is more concentrated and will smell more. Over the counter urinary foods are a bad idea. If your cat is not being treated for a specific crystal in his urine, this food only predisposes him to making another type of crystal, equally as bad. Only feed special foods if you vet tells you to. He needs a check up and a urinalysis to determine if there is an underlying problem.

Go to the vet and have them do an urinalysis on him. They will check for crystals, bacteria and the PH of the urine. Depending on the PH of the urine it can cause different problems. If it is to alkaline ot to acidic you'll need a diet that makes it more basic so it doesn't cause problems. Strong smelling urine can indicate a problem and the vet would be your first place to start. Good luck

If he's not already fixed I would do so. Your vet might be able to tell you more. Purina makes a urinary tract health formula. Purina is a good brand. Be careful about switching foods though. Remember that can make your cat sick. You can mix the old food with the new food and they will get used to it quicker with fewer side effects.

First of all Dad's is not a good diet period. If your cat is male and unneutered then his urine is going to smell extremely strong plus unneutered males spray to mark their territory and it is a hard odor to get rid of. I would definitely take him to the veterinarian to have a urinalysis run just in case. To make sure there is no infection, crystals, casts, etc.

don't use Dad's brand food- the levels are too high in it.
Ask your vet about a specific brand of food they sell...it is expensive but is worth it for true urinary tract health.

Use scoop able litter and scoop it several times a day. The litter I use is Tidy cat and it absorbs the odor and you do not smell it.

It is a "male" cat----------they stink alot worse then a female cat-----however all cats' urine/feces stink no matter what they are fed. It 's terrible.
