One of the most pleasant receptions I've attended was held immediately following the ceremony in the church hall. The hall was nicely decorated. There was delicious food. There was good conversation with friends. Our hosts had a harpist playing quiet background music during the reception. There were plenty of chairs, so we didn't have to stand the whole time. It was just pleasant. There were none of these extras you mention. Just good food, enjoyable music, and pleasant conversation with friends. I vote for keeping it simple. Make sure your guests are comfortable, and greet as many people as you can. That's all that is really necessary.

When you say "put for wedding reception," do you mean entertainment? There's nothing wrong with having a DJ if you tell him up front what you will and will not tolerate as far as music goes. You could have a musical DVD of a particular artist that you all like. There are a lot of concert DVDs available. Or you could video tape the bride & groom now and intermix their childhood pictures with a nice musical backdrop.

If you don't want a DJ because you are not allowed to dance download a bunch of instrumental itunes onto someone ipod and hook it up to a laptop for background music. If you are allowed to dance but want to skip the cost of a DJ that will do the same thing. You can limit the playlist to things that are unoffensive to you.

If you wanted to do a video what about making one? Get the bridal party together and make a funny video of the bride and groom. Start by having two people dress up to "look like them" and do little skits about their courtship. Do a few more about life after marriage. (Like if she can't cook have a skit where she is trying to cook and it ends up going very wrong....eg. flour bag explodes all over the kitchen). End the movie by having the bride and grooms family members recall a funny memory of when they were kids (like that time the groom got his head stuck in the stair rail or something). Finish it with a slideshow of pics of them throughout their lives.

Your can put together a picture board together and just have a good night socializing. How about a boombox for background music? I think since you are having a dinner, that will be the main part of the wedding. I also have heard of letting others tell stories that they remember about you as you were younger.

How about some soft background music instead. If this is a dinner, you want the people interacting with each other, not watching a screen.

At 10 years previous, the boy sould be ok attending to mattress via himself see you later as he say goodnight. If that's no longer the case, then the confirm or specific parent ought to achieve this. If he's high-quality, then there is not any problemo, amigo! do no longer enable the mattress bugs chew!

Some instrumentals would be nice, maybe a harp or a simple guitar.
