Went to an Ethical Society meeting and put $5.00 in the collection. OK, so it's a very SMALL positive impact, but it is an impact. I also listened to some interesting people and got involved in an interesting discussion.
To me, the effort to make a better world is done in tiny bits. A good idea here, a good deed there, a thought, a kindness, a refusal to do the wrong thing is almost more important than a need to do some positive thing every day. A decision to care what happens to the next generation, even if it does not have any particular action results today, is still an important thing all by itself.
The main speaker today mentioned a useful definition of sustainable technology: meeting our own needs while not having a negative impact on future generations' ability to meet their own needs. He was involved in sustainable building specifically, but the concept applies to recycled materials, biodegradable materials, energy efficient and non-polluting methods of all sorts.
Then I came home and started answering questions here, adding my little bit to the idea that we can use our heads, informed by our hearts, to creatively solve problems. And it does not have to be big government programs. Much can be done by individuals and small businesses, people who design products using recycled materials, people who take the time to send their unwanted materials to the thrift shop or the recycling plant, not to the land fill.
Maybe what positive impact I had today was to answer this question.

My gorgeous grandson came to stay here last night (yes, at the age of 40 Im a grandma, heck!)
He always thinks its a great idea to get up at 4.30am with the birds, so we did! We had breakfast, chatted (as well as you can with an 18 month old) & then kicked a football round the garden in the sun. Really simple. Really good quality time. Priceless.

volunteered for 3 hours. Don't think it made much difference really, but it got at least one kid out of his sulks.
What have you done?
