It is usually more important to control calories.

Eating 300 calories in pasta or 300 calories in lard, well the pasta is obviously more healthy than lard, because of the damage saturated fat does to your arteries amongst other things. In terms of weight gain though, there is likey to be little difference. Incidentally, 300 calories of lard is a much smaller volume than 300 calories of pasta, so you are more likely to overeat the lard, which may be one of the things that makes a difference.

However, eating 300 calories of fruit is likely to make you gain less weight than 300 calories of lard or pasta, because #1 that much fruit contains a high volume of water which for some reason helps weightloss (still not sure why, but it does) #2 it goes through your system quicker so somehow less of the calories seem to be absorbed, #3 I don't have a medical reason but anectdotal evidence tells me it's so.

But eating fat is not all bad. 300 calories of pine nuts probably has a similar fat content to 300 calories of lard, but is much healthier because of the type of fat, which doesn't attach to your arteries in the same way.

Eating too much fat is bad. Certain fats are vital to your health since your body needs fat too absorb vitamins.

Most important thing when trying to loose weight is burning more calories than you take in, because calories that are not burnt is converted into fat. Generally fat contains more calories per gram than say protein or carbohydrates.

A ratio of 30%protein, 15%fat and 55 % carbohydrates would be a good starting point.

fats, especially saturated fats which come mainly from dairy products, are bad for your arteries and heart, making you more likely to suffer from heart disease, stroke and/or diabetes. vegetable fats are less bad for you.

1 gram of fat gives you 9 calories, against the 4 calories found in 1 gram of protein or carbohydrates. Thus fat is very fattening!

Your body needs fat in any case. You start to crave it if you don't get enough, it is useful for cushioning your organs and rebuilding tissue etc..Just don't eat too much. RE calories, it depends how much you eat and how active you are. If you don't use them up they will turn into fat. It is best to eat only healthy food and keep active. Good luck
