I recently added more memory to my computer about a week ago, and things were working fine until last night after I turned my PC on, it looked like it was stuck on the Windows Logo the one that comes up when booting up. I waited for a good 10 minutes and it never went pass that and it did not showed any CPU activity. I rebooted the PC again, but this time I went thru the SAFE MODE, and could not find anything wrong anywhere, so I restarted again normal and there it goes again, stuck on the booting up Windows Logo.

I tried it a couple of times and I even left the PC over night booting up thinking it might need sometime to process something like an update or who knows what, but when I got up this mornining it was still stuck on the Windows Logo with no CPU activity at all.

Now all I can do is run my PC on Safe Mode and to my surprise everything works fine still except for the speakers.

Is there anything I can do to get it back to normal??

Instead of going into safe mode try the options it lists.

Try last known best configurations if that doesn;t work, click start windows normally.

Hello Normal mode is when all the drivers and and you access to everything such as programs and functions. In safe mode the functionality of your computer is reduced and there are programs that cannot be accessed during the safe mode. The safe mode typically provides access to utility and diagnostic programs so a user can troubleshoot what is preventing the operating system from working normally. Safe mode is intended for maintenance, not functionality, and provides minimal access to features which often frustrates users. You can access the safe mode by pressing F8 as the operating system boots.

Your HDD probably has some issues.

boot up with the windows CD.
tell it to repair the partition (don't do anything stupid like overwriting the partition)
type "chkdsk /f"
This repair can take from about 30 mins to several hours. Just let it do its thing.

(Shoot, I didn't read about where you put in more memory. That's probably the issue. Try taking the new module out and see if it's any different. If it's an older machine and you have two memory modules that have different speeds, this can screw things up. Newer machines will just adjust to the lower speed.)

I suppose you tried a sytem restore from within safe mode?

If so and it didn't work then while in safe mode click on "start", "Run" type msconfig and click "Ok" then go to the start.ini tab and uncheck the items in there. Then try rebooting in normal - if it boots okay go in to the msconfig again (from normal mode) and recheck the items in start.ini again one at a time until the error shows, then reinstall the affected software.

Best of luck.

Put back in the old memory and see if that is the culprit.. you might not have the new memory seated correctly, try re seating it.
You should not have to run it in safe mode, you are missing out on a lot of the resources that are installed.

You already know what the problem is. It's the memory you installed. Either it's not compatible, not seated properly, or your computer can't use it.

Take it out and verify whether your computer will work or not. Then READ your computer documentation and compare the memory to the old memory to make sure it's ENTIRELY compatible.

Good Luck

it is having a problem with the additional memory. It needs to be configured in. I do not know how to do that. I let the shop do that.
