Maybe it's because you think "If that's true, then I need to change, but theres NO WAY that can be true, look at these things that look like flaws"

I'm not being rude. I'm just curious as to why. Please do not be offended.

Why are Atheists on here?
This is such a common question and it's amazing to me that it's even asked. My response to the believers is:

You should be glad that Atheists are on here.

Do you not have compassion in your heart? Do you not believe that their very souls are in danger of forever being burned in hellfire? Well, this is your chance to be a good believer and reach out; or are you only concerned with preaching to the choir?

I believe that you are on here for the best of reasons - you love your faith and believe it will save you and others.

Haven't you ever really wondered why Atheists are on here as well?

They, like you, believe there is probably no more important question in the world than "Is there a God?"

So why would you be upset if they were just trying to test themselves to see if there really is a good reason to believe? You should be glad (unless you are happy with the thought of souls burning in hell, which I believe you are not.)

But Atheists have good intentions as well (even though they may not always show it). Imagine for a moment that they are right and there is no God...

Then religious wars, scaring children with threats of hell, and persecution of homosexuals were all just a shameful waste. Moreover, look at the atrocities caused by the beliefs of groups like the Catholic church that teaches AIDS ridden areas of Africa and the Americas that condom use is a sin. They are (at least partly) responsible for the loss of innocent life. Believers spend more time worshiping their imaginary friend then they do caring about real issues like alleviating poverty, or doing something about the great problems this planet faces. With that in mind, the best thing atheists could be doing is trying to introduce people to a logical way of thinking and overcome their superstitions.

Also, consider what you asking this question really says... if you are worried about people who question your belief system, maybe you are not all that secure in your beliefs. If your beliefs are logical, then answer their questions; it shouldn't be an issue.

Ultimately, what matters is who is right (if any of us), and how do we know that.

If you wish to know more about the damage that religion causes, I suggest you read "The End of Faith," and "Letter to a Christian Nation" by Sam Harris.

I once thought I was an atheist,

now I have a different understanding.

At the time I thought I was one

It was that when I looked out upon the world what I thought I was seeing as religious.church goers, well I didn't seem to think I was like that.

and the result was if I am not like that and they are Godly then I must not be Godly and the only term I was aware of was an atheist.

later events happened in my life IE near death and more that seemed to prompt me to find an answer to a question that appeared and much has since been discovered and experienced

riddles can busy a mind, but looking within will reveal everything that once might have been judged/perceived as a secret - ASK an all is revealed to the serious inquirer/questioner

You hit the nail at the head whilst you stated "I simply do not comprehend" - that is what an atheist feels whilst a reputedly usual man or woman begins quoting a booklet that was once written within the iron age and pronouncing now not most effective that it's valuable at present, however that the whole thing it says is undoubtedly precise and the whole thing is created via a sentient perfect being whom we will have to love and worship. Everything else apart, how are you able to love a person that you have on no account had any communique with? And I imply right, 2 method sensible communique now not the mystic form you get in faith. Because it is going towards all rational, logical inspiration atheists believe that those humans will have to be placed proper. Usually this most effective comes after a few pious devout nut has attempted to transform the atheist. We most effective regularly do that to get our possess again, as a rule we do not provide a crap what others feel as long as they maintain it to themselves.

I don't try to prove them wrong, I really dont care what anyone else believes in, whether it be a crystal, a buddah, mohammed, a totem pole or a jesus. As long as the religion makes that person feel good and promotes them to be a good person in the world, then I am fine. I just feel and know that atheism is the true way, and the way that makes sense, although I do view religions a supreme waste of time. Morality is what should be adhered and admired...plus atheists don't have to wake up early on a sunday to go to church

Because your religion is RIDICULOUS and it's full of holes, yet some you try and promote a book of mythology as if it were the only true thing that has ever occurred in the history of time.
And the reason why we point these things out is because your religion is just as much of a political power as it is a 'spiritual' one. If you weren't trying to tell people how they should live their lives all the time we wouldn't even bother you. When was the last time you saw us poking holes in Jainism? We don't because they are harmless and decent.

It's mostly Christians insisting they know and believe something we don't know and that we are wrong not to go along with their beliefs even though they offer no convincing evidence or proof of their religious claims...sorry!
They don't like it when we tell them why we don't share their Christian beliefs and they usually call it an attack and say that we are trying to prove Christians wrong as you have done once again.

I honestly want to know how flaws can be rationalized. Sometimes my doubts have good answers from Christians. Some answers are bizarre and make no sense. I'm just curious to what apologetics have to say. I guess it's my way of learning what people think.

I don't try to prove anything, but I do answer questions posted to Atheists. When I'm bashed, I don't sit back and take it with a smile.
There are far more examples of religious people questioning and bashing Atheists than the other way around.

I don't try to prove them wrong as there is no way of doing so. I cannot disprove god.

With that said, there is the notion that they themselves CANNOT prove his existence. And since they cannot, god (xian or otherwise) does not exist.

It's the same with any god - if I believed in Zeus, would you say that I believed in the wrong god? Would you try to convince me that yours is the real god? Because Zeus is my lord and savior as I believe him to be. Can you prove me wrong?

If, by some miraculous chance, you proved your god to be true I would still not worship him. Acknowledge him, yes I would. But, I would rather go to hell than worship a deity like the xian god who is a jealous child killer.

How many times is this question asked? Why do Christians try to prove Athiests wrong? and vice verse. Neither of you can ever know if you are right or wrong. There is no current proof, so why bother?
