Most will recommend a female, but it doesn't matter. Most adult cats will get along with kittens of either sex. Some won't, but you know your cat's personality more than anyone.

I hope that your male is neutered. If not sex won't matter, he will spray. I would go with an older female. Males get too aggressive against each other, trying to say it is their territory. Also, it will take about two weeks, before you cats get along good. They will hiss and growl at each other for a while, then they will mellow and become best buds.

The sex will not matter and it is not a good idea. Two kittens would be better.

I would say female because sometimes males fight. But also make sure that the male is neutered.
