Do Mormons understand about Christ's rising from the dead like Christians do? Easter has been a fundamentally important holiday for Christians. The reason I am asking is because I noticed that LDS celebrate Christmas.

My friend at work has a copy of The God Makers. He said he would let me borrow it. Thanks!

I have noticed that many of you have prejudice against the book, The God Makers. I realize that you may have issues with its author but I feel that it is important to investigate both sides of a story. Obviously something produced by a Mormon company would be favorable to its own agenda. Therefore, if we require a mature, balanced, and objective reference on the topic we would seek an outside source. I am thankful to the posters that recommended, "The God Makers" to me because I think that this would help my brother as well. For the other side I do have a Book of Mormon that I am comparing with my Bible and I will use The God Makers as a companion guide to help me with my research.

They might believe that the first Easter was when the Indians taught the Cowboys how to cook Easter eggs but I don't have a credible source for this information.

Yes, we celebrate Easter. It is very important to Mormons and of course so is Christmas. The WHOLE life of Christ is important. But Mormons try to concentrate on the life, Resurrection and teachings of Christ more then his Crucifixion. That said we also do recognize the importance of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection.

If you want to watch the God Makers do so, but understand it is not very accurate and was made out of hatred. There are many more non-Mormon sources that would give you more accurate information then that film will about the LDS church. If you are going to check out the LDS church do so with prayer so you know the Holy spirit will be helping you know the truth.

My room-mate was raised morman.....let me put her on......

ALL the holidays are celebrated, and they are celebrated traditonally with no weird "rituals" or any differently than anyone else. We have Easter baskets and easter eggs...we even hold hunts on church grounds. By the way, LDS and Mormon are the same thing.
We are taught about the ressurection, in fact, in the Mormon religion does tend to focus more on the ressurection than the cross. Mormons tend to like to celbrate the living Christ. We do teach the whole story from the last supper all the way to when Christ appeared to the apostles after His death.
Mormons do teach about Christ, but as a now turned Baptist, I know that Mormons should focus all their attention to Christ and not the history of the church and their prophets.

Yes, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, aka Mormons, commemorate Easter as the day Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead. Because of Jesus Christ everyone will be resurrected someday.

We do not celebrate the, "Feast of Christ the King."

Yes, Easter is celebrated. The Atonement of Christ is remembered each Sunday by partaking of the Sacrament.

What a blessing it is that Ed Decker is the best example of a critic of the Church. A wise Luthern once said that when exploring another faith do 3 things. Ask a member, compare your best with their best and leave room for "holy envy". That is, appreciate differences in a loving way.

Yes Mormon's celebrate Easter the same as other christian denominations. They believe that Easter celebrates the final triumph of Jesus the Christ at the end of his earthly mission as he overcame both sin and death. It is a very important holiday to the LDS religion (which is the same as mormonsim). They believe that Easter is a celebration for the Savior's work of atoning for our sins and making possible the Resurrection. They view it as the unlocking of the door leading to eternal life. You can check it out yourself at lds.org They are very open with their beliefs.

Like any other christian church, easter and christmas have higher than normal attendance. Except mormons do not have a christmas day celebration unless it falls on a sunday. Easter, by default is 'always' celebrated.

The only other 'holiday' recognized by the church is Pioneer Day (also called the Day of Deliverance) July 24, but mostly in Jr Sunday school classes or scouting.

Mormons celebrate Easter, Christmas, etc. They do not celebrate most of the Catholic feasts. If you watch The God Makers, I pray that you will consider who has produced it (Mormon haters) and consider watching something more truthful about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mormon is a common nickname for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are Christian and celebrate most traditional christian holidays.

If you would like to learn more about the church, visit www.mormon.org or www.lds.org.

I would not advise watching the Godmakers as a way of learning about the church. It was produced by a man named Ed Decker. He was LDS a one point but was excommunicated for committing adultery. He became angry with the church at being excommunicated and has now devoted his life to attacking the church. He is hardly a credible source and is even looked down upon by other anti-mormon critics for exaggerating and using sensationalism. I have watched parts of the God makers and can assure you that it is so riddled with lies that it made me sick and angry.

Visit an LDS church, talk with some members, read the Book of Mormon, pray to God for guidance and then judge for yourself.

Good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.
