Any small terrier breed would work, as they were originally bred for that sort of thing, HOWEVER you should seriously consider the dangers of getting a dog for this purpose.

Rats carry A LOT of diseases, and if they bite or scratch your dog in the fight (which WILL happen) not only can they seriously injure the dog, he could contract a potentially fatal or debilitating disease. Your vet bills will be sky high.

Also, you will have to clean up the mess. Picture a wounded, bleeding rat running across the house trying to find cover, when you aren't home, bleeding everywhere as it goes, then getting into a crack behind the sofa. Your dog goes nuts scratching and biting at the sofa to get at that rat. You come home and your dog triumphantly presents you with the corpse, a bloody carpet, shreds of sofa cushions, and who knows what else got broken along the way.

It would be better to invest in some rat traps (even the snap-killing kind would be cleaner than a dog kill) or a good exterminator.

You do not have a "mini doberman pincher", when you consider that there's no such breed. What you commonly have is a Minature Pincher, that's honestly a terrier and certainly not concerning the Doberman Pincher in any respect. Anyway, the task of a Miniature Pincher was once as a farm puppy. They are terriers and do kill small critters like rats, gerbils, and so forth. So your puppy is solely doing his task. If you be certain he has all his pictures and that he is not consuming his kill, he will have to be OK. If you do not like what he is doing then deliver him within the apartment.

Um any dog chases rats. But I think the Rat terrier and the yorkshire terrier were bred for this. The yorkie is a small dog to get in the holes. They also don't shed. Just giving you some suggestions.

Probably any of the small terriers (I dout a bull terrier but you never know) as well as a min pin would hunt rats- Jack Russell probably being the ultimate. BUT BE WARNED and dog that will hunt rats with persistance WILL rip the house apart (furnature, drywall and all) to get the rat.

According to Wikipedia, they do hunt vermin, but it doesn't say more. I would think dogs of that size which were bred to rid homes of vermin will definitely kill them, but not necessarily eat them. That would be my bigger concern.
