Go to Website dpreview.com The camera I would pick according to the Website hovers around $200-
The Canon PowerShot A630. Fast shutter speed at 1/2500 of a second, takes AA rechargeable batteries, very good on battery life, takes an excellent 8X10 when enlarged, 4X optical zoom and is an 8 megapixel camera. Also has viewfinder which many manufacturers are swaying away from. If you use the LCD screen only, it will eat up your batteries quickly. So you'd have the option of using it's viewfinder.

Even though I personally own this camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:
1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. And the price is a mere $120 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samyscamera.com, and Staples.com.]
Good luck!

thats like asking what car is best...it depends on what features matter to you most. Size? Battery life? Easy to use controls? Editing software? I personally have a cannon powershot A410 3.2 mpixel which when i bought it was about $110. Great camera for that price. Only issue i have is i wish it were thinner so i could carry in my pocket.
Dont get hung up on the number of pixes. For most needs a 3 mpixel camera is fine. Unless you want to make a poster out of your picture, or perhaps cut and paste a face out of a picture then 3 megapixel is fine. Higher megapixels pictures take more space on your memory card, and are harder to email and upload so more is not better.
You can get a great deal on a used digital camera from people wanting to upgrade. Ebay from a good reliable seller is very low risk and a lot of savings.
Consumer reports has a great article this month on digital cameras, suggest you pick up a copy at your neighborhood store.

Kodak Easyshare C875 =]
It's $199.00. Amazing camera.
I have it, and I love it.
It has many picture taking modes.
But some people completely dislike Kodak.
And it still might be too expensive for you.
My grandma has the exslim, and it's a good camera. The picture quality isn't as good as mine (although mine is 8.0 megapixels), but it does a pretty good job. It's also conveinent because of it's size!
I think it'd be a better choice than the cannon one you have listed up at the top.
If you went to a Best Buy store, I'm sure you could go to their camera display and mess with their cameras.
Also, Best Buy is usually a little more expensive than places such as Office Depot. =]

I am partial to Canon because they are intuitive and easy to use. I had a Canon Powershot S40 which was an amazing little camera. The Powershot models are also quite rugged and loaded with features. For the price, they offer solid performance and value.
If I had my choice, I would pick the A550/A560 or the A630 (if you can find it under $200).

I think "Kodak EasyShare C743 Digital Camera - 7.1 Megapixels - 3x Optical Zoom - 5x Digital Zoom - 2.4" Color LCD - 1856558" is the best choice, since following reasons:
1. Price only $190.00
2. 7.1 Megapixels
3. Kodak is my best choice.
